What is an amp IC? Any Seattle area people good with audio repair?

A woofer on one of my m-audio studio monitors stopped working- likely related to a cross-country move. I took it to Teletron repair service and they quoted me $150 for the repair, which is what I paid for the speakers used. They said I needed a couple of amp IC's.
What is an amp IC?
If I ordered them, would it be relatively easy for me to do myself or have an experienced electronics tech do the work?
Anyone soulstrut folk in Seattle good with this sort of stuff?
