This guy appears to be selling an acetate by the Quarrymen.
In reality he is selling an acetate from the studio that once recorded a Quarrymen acetate.
He starts with a long story about the Quarrymen's recording session and how rare the acetate is.
Then slips in this line "This item is not, of course, that acetate." then goes on to say how rare this acetate is and how great it will look on your wall.

Did the winning bidder know what they were bidding on?

On 12 July 1958, a local skiffle group, The Quarrymen (Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, Lowe and Hanton) visited P F Phillips??? recording studio in Kensington, Liverpool to record two songs, although the date has been disputed. The group were surprised to see how small and technically basic the studio was, with only one microphone in the centre of the room. Phillips demanded that they pay for the recording before they set up the equipment, so each member paid 3 shillings and 6 pence, but he then asked for an extra surcharge (??1) to cover the cost of transferring the tape recording to acetate disc. As this was too expensive, Phillips said that for a cut-rate price they would not be taped first, but record directly to vinyl. The first song they recorded was "That???ll Be The Day" (sung by Lennon with harmonies by McCartney). Phillips wanted them to immediately record the next song, but Lennon and McCartney could not decide on a song for the B-side of the disc. McCartney suggested the doo-wop ballad, "In Spite of All the Danger" (by McCartney and Harrison, but sung by Lennon). They asked for some time to rehearse, but Phillips refused, saying, "For seventeen and six you're not here all day". The acetate recorded that day was discovered many years later and purchased by Paul McCartney for an undisclosed sum. This item is not, of course, that acetate. It is, in fact, an unknown woman who recorded her voice at the very same studio. The label on the acetate is, however, exactly the same as that on the very first recording on record by The Beatles in their original form "The Quarrymen". There are very few of these about nowadays and this would look great if framed with an article about the above. The acetate itself is not in great condition, with some loss of the black stuff around the edges, but the label is clean with little wear. Paypal accepted, also cash or cheque. Please see my other regular listings for more comics and also music, television and film memorabilia. A charge for recorded delivery in respect of items over ??30 and special delivery for items in excess of ??100 will be added to the stated UK postage and packing costs. Items sent abroad will incur an additional charge of ??5.15 to cover insurance if the value exceeds ??42. This is a requirement of Paypal. If more than one item is being sent at the same time postage costs will be recalculated.

    Be schooled:
    17 shillings and six pence.

This is absolutely ridiculous and a complete con, especially with the auction title "Demo Label - The Beatles - First Ever Recording - P F Phillips Studio Liverpool"!

Maybe the buyer did know exactly what he/she was doing...

    SS dudes are funny.
Like they can school Beatles collectros on the fine arts of sniffing out dodgy items and getting took by rampant hyperbole.

Reckon this is a cool item for such a crusty, peripheral yes but dey mindset is completist and as much about collecting the atmosphere of the time as it is about Beatles merch.

These dudes will buy books about Harrison's mum's hairdresser. They'll buy a piece of 1963 toast because it was in Macca's parents' kitchen.
Fuck it, they probably even bought Ebony And Ivory.

B/w none of you dudes ever heard of caveat emptor?
