some sample questions from an exam today, anyone versed enuff to answer these? i just wanna make sure I'm on the right track here...

    2. The Kharajites emerged as a political faction during the rule of Ali (the fourth Rashidun caliph).
Although they cease to exist today, which of the following could best be considered part of their legacy?

Since the Kharajites were fundamentalist zealots, and Ali was related to Muhammad, C appears to be the only choice.

    a) That the leader of the Muslim community should be from the family of the Prophet Muhammad

    b) Infusing rationalism into Islamic legal thought

    c) Declaring Muslim opponents as infidels and targeting them with violence

    d) All of the above

    e) A and B only

    3. An overriding concern of post-colonial leaders like al-Banna, Maududi, Qutb, and Khomeini was:

    A. Khomeini cinches it.

    a) Preserving an Islamic identity among Muslims

    b) Developing closer ties between the Muslim world and the West

    c) Spreading the Islamic religion in Western societies

    d) All of the above

    e) B and C only

    4. According to Feldman, the shariah (Islamic law) is:

This question feels like a trap. It is D. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/16/magazine/16Shariah-t.html?pagewanted=all

    a) A set of laws derived from clear verses of the Quran

    b) Prophetic Traditions (hadith) of a legal nature

    c) A set of legal rules

    d) A set of unchanging beliefs and principles

    e) None of the above

    6. If economic and political factors are the most important in regards to the implementation of human rights,
then why is Quranic interpretation relevant in the context of human rights in Muslim states?
I want to editorialize that this is a horribly written questions, absolute garbage. This question really depends on what you're talkin about in your class.

    a) Most Muslim states follow a shariah (Islamic law) legal code

    b) Muslim commitment to human rights is linked to their perceived consistency with Islamic precepts

    c) Most Muslim states have an Islamic political and economic system

    d) A and C only

    Yah!
    2 additional thoughts/questions:
    1) What level class is this and what discipline? 3 out of 4 of those questions are actually REALLY hard.
    2) If you are interested in Islam, one of the most interesting debates IMO is about ijtihad.
