I know that everyone is not a "hip hop head" on SS but I thought I would throw them out there for discussion. I have been trying to dig up some history about the group online. All I keep getting is what is on Wackapedia and scarce interviews from the group so far. If you can provide some history that is not already online that would be really cool. But really I would like to know what you guys think, also if the LA strutters can tell what it was like when they first came out and if you truly believe they rep'd L.A. to the fullest.

    I thought the first album was awful to be honest.
    The rhyming was so one track almost every line was "Im like" something or other.
    He did a rhyme on the second Paris album and he (funk doobie ) was so on point, he just to my ears anyway couldn't write a good track on his first album.
    Come the second Funkdoobiest album things were sounding a lot better.
    Then I never head anything from him/them again.
    I fuckin hate that Bow Wow Wiw track.
    Love buckwild's mix of Rock on.

    They were like a bud (NoPunIntended) from the Cypress Hill plant, when B Real was still friendly w/House of Pain. Did they rep LA to the fullest? No, not in my opinion. I'm not from LA, but it was not even obvious bitd where they were from IMO based on listening to their music. Later on, Son Doobie started working in porn and that Tomahawk dude left after the first album. This is my favorite cut by them, preferably played fucking loud as hell:



    I never considered them to be lyricists, that's why I didn't really sweat their abilities. They just made decent background music while you were playing basketball or something. I liked their song on the Mi Vida Loca OST too, but it hasn't aged well, like the majority of their music.

    he is still on the 2nd, and on the last Album if I recall correctly. Me and my boys were huge fans bitd and missed them when they were touring with Cypress Hill and LOTUG back in 93. "Rock On" was part of the soundtrack to my youth...the 2nd album was definitely stronger than the first. I always loved their productions (the DRUMS!!!) and artwork. Their last album is retro to the fullest but I like this jam...never seen Son Doobie's porn movies though...

    Yes they repped LA if only because Ralph M is an original KDAY mixmaster - you really can't get more OG than that. As far as son doobie, I always thought he was from the valley but I may be wrong. As a group never saw them hanging around as much as say FF13 or Pharcyde in the early 90's, but they got love in Rap Sheet and around town and I'm pretty sure I saw them at Unity. First album went gold, reppin' LAtino's and a banging as remix by Buckwild who had a string of great remixes IIRC within like a one month release. I think the other was a Alkaholics rmx, can't remember. Cal Tjader loops. SHit banged.

    I foolishly traded this 12 away...I don't even remember what I got for it, but whatever it was, it wasn't as good as what I gave up.

    I'm from North Carolina, and in my circles, I was the only cat reppin' Funkboobiest. I love the 1st two albums and I still play 'em. I was playing the 2nd for wifey not too long ago and she dug them too. I liked Son Doobie's wordplay and wittiness and the production was solid as well. Here's my joint off the 2nd LP:

    First album was a CLASSIC everyone was bumping that. They didnt do anything as funky or interesting after that imo. I got to see them in 93 and sondoobie pretty much killed it with the little routines etc. Like squatting on stage and then doing im shitting on em.
    His flow was certified. I dont think anyone ever doubted they repped la but it was cool that although they had the whole vato look and association all they rapped about was funk weed funk and funk. great group.
