Just got an email announcing for their 50th issue, Wax Poetics is going back to a quarterly publishing calendar. Also, the mag is raising its price and have expanded it's size to 8.5x11.

Looking forward to story on Prince.

They might as well go all out on a glossy monthly mag, cuz I think they've long lost the dusty record collector types....

Tbh i thought their 50th would be their last issue... good to see they found a way out (for now).

Edit: also, i like that Adrian Younge/April lp joint. Sue me.

If an article can be done on DJ Quik, fine time to do one on DJ Screw...and put him on the cover while you're at it.

I'm a little disspointed in the size change just for the simple face the new issue is gonna stick out on the shelf amongst the little duns. A Prince cover and a piece on the Novacane guy? Hopefully this sells some issues. I will continue to buy and support WP as they have dropped a great deal of Knowedlge over the years.

"One-ply or two-ply? In this exclusive interview, Prince sheds some light on his personal preferences, his wiping techniques, & his struggles with bad tp use throughout most of his career. He also *drops* a bombshell on us."

    Dropping loads of knowledge.

I only pick up the mag sporadically, so I can't really speak on it in the context of other recent issues, but I was pretty disappointed with the issue -- especially the Prince "cover" story. Sure it had a few interesting tidbits about the man; mostly it was just a lot of navel gazing by this former road manager with near nil insight into the process or even, really, any mention of his actual music. I forget the actual phrasing but in the publisher's note, he was oddly like, "This isn't even close to the definitive Prince article," and it's true.

As far as the actual book goes, seems the paper stock actually declined since the last issue I got, which admittedly was a while ago. No gloss whatsoever. I don't think I can justify the purchase at the $12 pricepoint.
