    Sad day indeed.

I knew he was in a bad way (workmate's son dating Joe's daughter), but this is still heartbreaking to hear.
His twilight years seemed to be a string of bad luck, including his house burning down not so long ago.

Tribute night tonight via analogue reproduction....

    (;_;)

  • Sad day indeed. Had heard he had been sick for a while...

Some of my best memories in Japan are from hanging out with Joe at his
yearly Halloween party at his house, before it burned down. My girlfriend's
co-worker is a close friend of the Yamanakas and we were lucky enough
to be able to spend some time with him and his family my first couple years
    living in Tokyo.

Joe was an extremely open, friendly and giving individual and an excellent
host. His wife and children are both in my thoughts.

    Rest in peace, Joe...

Wow! Can only begin to imagine a Halloween party at Joe Yamanaka's place. Must be a great memory.

Man good times...I went in 2008 & 2009. Mostly just hanging out
and chatting about life and music around the BBQ. About 40 people,
mostly family & close friends...telling crazy stories and chillin in the woods.
Good people & good food. Not much more you can ask for.

Spinning their catalog off vinyl at the crib tomorrow while working on this assignment... there is an excellent documentary which features footage and interviews with Joe called Rock Tanjo "The Movement 70's"... however not sure when a version with English subs (if ever) is due for release....

I'm happy over the past 3 trips to Japan to complete their discography, aside from the odd 7" that MattB pulled last time we went diggin' (BASTARD HAND IT OVER).

    peace.

I got turned on to them by diggin' . Found 2 promo 45s of Satori parts 1 and 2 at spot here in Memphis. The name was intriguing, so I copped. When I put them on, I was knocked out. "Holy shit, thats the Slayer riff!" Immediately a fan for life after hearing that 45. The GOAT Japanese Rock band.

Interesting. Are they on Atlantic? Catalogue number 45-2810?
I have the non-promo version of this (from nrich if I remember correctly), but havnt seen the promo before. If you still have the spare, let me know if you're willing to trade/sell it.
