LL Cool J's dad = Jimmy Nunya???

So I found this cool 7" diggin over the weekend, highly sample-able, and I wanted to find out more about the artist. The only info I found looking up Jimmy Nunya, is that a man of the same name is LL Cool J's dad. For those that are familiar with LL's story, his dad allegedly was an addict and shot his own wife and mother-in-law when LL was 4. Anyone know if this is this the same Jimmy? If he did time after the shooting in '72, I figure he could have been out by '82 to record this 7". Thing is, it's an LA label, so maybe he moved to the west coast?
