As a labor of love I have posted 2000 funk & soul songs (with a few leftfield surprises) over the last 7 years, including label/cover scans. For those that care, all but 9 of them are original pressings from my collection.     Just an update to say that I reached 2000 records posted now on http://funksoul.tumblr.com/ . Pretty sure there are some joints in there that strutters might like.

    Yeah...but probably no. I'm too lazy to do it right. On the other hand, if someone wants to do all the legwork....

    Up until the mid 00s it seemed that labels could comp with impunity, but I'm guessing everything has to be fully licensed now.
    So to recoup those costs you want to guarantee sales, and the easiest way to do that is to rope in a "name".
    Jazzman put out a comp of 45s they'd previously issued individually and called it "Quantic Presents...".
    Kanye is obviously at one end of the spectrum, but there might be someone reachable with a genuine love of the music who would garner interest from those new to the game.
    Action Bronson uses samples for instance.
