Enjoy the holiday if you get it off from work/school, but please remember the man for whom today is named.

I still can believe the amount of places who refuse to acknowledge this day, what a beautiful, strong person. RIP.

  • a true legend...absolutely humbling to think of how committed, driven and productive he was.

I really love this sermon. Touches on all themes of his struggle, Racism, Militarism, and the Rich's never-ending class war on you and i.

  • It's also important to remember why Dr.King was in Memphis...

it gets me a little irked every year when Martin gets boiled down to four lines of "i have a dream" all we want to do is hold hands. My man was really revving up the engines, speaking truth to power and broadening the scope. Once in a lifetime leader.

I say this here every year. I also always post a link to his Letter From Birmingham Jail.
One of the greatest pieces or persuasive writing ever. And the explanation for why we protest.

King was in jail, in Birmingham. He had been arrested for organizing a peaceful demonstration.
8 Birmingham clergy members, who acknowledged the need for change, wrote a letter urging him to call of the protest and wait for change. Her is his response:

Just got back from taking the wife and kids to the local celebration. My friend did a beautiful version of the People Get Ready; the Shirley Caesar version with the I Believe chorus (although he changed it up to "We Believe"). Always grateful to Dr King for what he did for all of us. Happy MLK day everybody.

  • Indeed.

Playing soul music every week across the street from the Lorraine Motel keeps his legacy in my mind like a chisel to marble.

This was an amazing sermon. Had me tearing up during parts of it. I listened to all of it this morning while playing Cecil Payne's "Martin Luther King Jr." on repeat. Thanks for the heart stirring my friend.

If only U.S. society today could truly embrace his message, and abandon all the vitriol and self-interest. I can't imagine how much better our country and world would be.

    Peace,
