Black Keys (latte pass)

  • The fresh sound of 1971! Saw them upstairs in a little pub in Brighton, and they took the roof off, good gig. Just the two of them then, the Thickfreakness sound, big drums & big riffs, nice. They did a great version of She Said by Beatles band, and also, this:

Auerbach: good on guitar playing. Bad on beard growing.

Musically, I love them. I go back every now and then, hoping I've progressed or I'll hear something new and/or that works for me...I really can't deal with the vocals.

First heard of them on this 2003 7" on the obscure Isota Records:

    Been a fan ever since.

    b/w

Isota was cool because they had a 7" single club, where you paid a subscription fee and they'd send you new 45s. Nice woodblock pressed sleeves too.

Two piece bands always have to face the moment of truth when they have depleted their sonic possibilities and get a bass player to get to that next level.

Other great duos (who later got bass players).
