what a bunch of negative ninnys.

OC is quite possibly one of the best ever. definitely in my top 5. I can't help but worry about this hiero colab, but i'll wait till i hear the product to flush.

that would explain why they're touring together.

Yeah, I saw that they'll be in B-more soon. I love OC, but I can't say that this looks like a great match to me. It's something new for him at least. We'll see.

Damn, really? I always thought he "FELL THE FUCK OFF!" after Word...Life. Jewelz was a clunker to me.

Give it a re-listen. Its not that bad. Theres actually some nice tracks on there.

O.C. is definitely at near subteranean status in the rap world. Heiro on the other hand has years and years experience running whats mabye one of the oldest and most established indie rap labels around. If nothing else, I gotta give it to them for that.

That said, I wouldnt go expecting any future classics from dude.

I agree that the bulk of that record is bland, but it's got a few tracks I like... and then a few that I would be embarassed to be caught listening to:

    Hey love...
    Yeah...

Shopping in the city one day
On my way, met a redbone by the name of Stronjay
Five foot six, body thick, hair silky
She could make the hardest man melt and turn milky
Bugged out shit, one eye was hazel, one was blue
Lips fully packed as my attention stayed glued
Upon her outline, I cased it with my mind
Saying to myself, 'this sugar be a dime'
Yo sugar, let's have a drink, and um, talk some more
Proceed to grab my bag, and then we exit the store
Walking down the street, men is staring with amazement
    Treatment something like black ???????????????
Anyhow, the star and me hit a sushi bar
Told her that I never had sushi before
Ordered saki that I already endeavored in Japan
Reached 'cross the table then I grabbed her hand
Why your man let you walk around solo like this?
My chinky eyes looked upon her as I gave her hand a kiss
This most mesmerizing young thing I must say
Echoes in my thoughts since I met you that day

    Chorus:
Stronjay, a beautiful thing I must say
Her body got curves like waves in The Bay
Lips light smooth, just like Alize
The bizomb, I couldn't see her blowing my way

Stronjay responds, men only want her cuz she rich
Her beeper start buzzin' so we pullin' out a flip
In the back of my mind, I'm sayin' 'yes, go ???????'
Find a nigga rich in New York's one in a million
She wanted to leave, I said 'Is this the end?'
Then she gave me an invitation back to her crib
I never surprise, I flag a cab, she says 'un uh'
My car's round the block in the parking garage
Got the vehicle, ???? the speed like Batman out of his cave
500 Benz whippin' in the wind
    Destination 57 Park Ave. south
Turn my face a little, wipe the slob from my mouth
The building was immaculate inside with marble floors
We hit the elevator, she slips out of her draws
I'm shocked like goodies and I don't know how to take 'em
Titties in my face and like a gun I must face 'em
This most mesmerizing young thing I must say
Echoes in my thoughts since I met you that day

    CHORUS

Top floor, penthouse suite for sure
It was classy like some type of fly furniture store
She grabbed me up and intertwined into a kiss with me
I tried taking off my clothes, she assisted me
Upon her fireplace wall is were I pushed her back
Then on the plush floor we fell; passionate collapse
She pushed me off, but the push wasn't mean
To the fridge, and came back with strawberries and whipped cream
The scene is set, but baby not just yet
Cuz strawberries and whipped cream ain't complete without Moet
Foreplay; nibblin' my tongues in the air
Layin flat on her back, I love tappin' on the rear
Nuff time we spent gettin' excited, I'm delighted
Excstasy, I know honey-hun she won't fight it
She stands up, and lead me by my hand, we fled
Into a room with a king size canopy bed
This most mesmerizing young thing I must say
Satisfied O in like each and every way

    CHORUS

    Hey love....

nothing's fucking with word life, but have ya'll heard starchild?

    ugh. no more plaese.

  • Perfect! This wine and HierOC should just be hitting their peak flavors!

  • OC and Big L "Dangerous" came on shuffle this morning. I was not mad at that.

It did make me realize the main difference between Big L and Papoose though: I have no desire to listen to a Papoose song, ever.

But seriously, Papoose is definitely missing something... I guess charisma would be the word for it. I'm talking about a Memph Bleek level of boringness.

cosign, i can start to get into a papoose track, but then the excitement just drifts off...

  • I couldn???t disagree more. I thought Starchild was a solid effort....especially considering there is no DITC production at all on the album (Vanguard & Soul Supreme?).

That track "What Am I Supposed To Do?" is one of my joints right now.

I will say the cover art is wack as fuck.....definitely misleading. That comic book thing is pretty stupid also.

I'm really looking forward to the U.S. version this winter.

Anybody hear about Pete Rock's involvement with the stateside release?

i listened to jewelz last week for the first time in the 20th century and felt it held up much better than expected. yeah o.c. is missing some charm, but he definitely has a nice laid back flow, especially over solid production like my world, dangerous, far from yours, and the title track.

listening to the album actually made me think it would be great to hear o.c. come back, but...

about this heiro merger, their styles seem so conflicitng! plus heiro hasn't put out anything noteworthy in years. is o.c. that desperate?

Didn't he do a record called Bon Appetit?

    (so delicious)

  • I found Bon Appetit for like 2 bucks and still didn't feel good about my purchase upon listening. Not a single good track. I haven't been that enamored with any of the Hiero shit in the last few years either. Just bland nonsense by and large. I tried to like it.

  • Bon Appetit is very forgettable. Most DITC fans won???t acknowledge it exists.

For the record, the new OC album was done before the deal with Heiro so its him and his boy who did the beats for the whole record.

I like some of the songs on Jewelz. All the girl songs were pretty much horrible though.

I was at a sushi bar last night, but I'm not sure how one "edeavors" sake.

Is this something stronjay taught OC how to do?

I guess he thought "endeavor" and "try" were interchangable in all contexts...

But, while he clearly soaked up some culture in Japan, he managed not to "endeavor" sushi?

And what kind of Japanese woman is named Stronjay? Matter of fact, sounds like

    A MAAAAAAN, BABY!

Is she supposed to be Japanese?

I thought the sushi and sake were just supposed to be signifiers of wealth and sophistication ("men only want her cuz she rich").

EDIT: I see now that "Stronjay" is supposed to be a delectable redbone... so not Japanese.

Yeah, that album was boring as hell. I can't believe that anyone would still have it in heavy rotation. Does your roomate own glowsticks and wear big junco pants?
