Gillian Welch

I've been listening to her releases for a somewhere over a year now, and I just can't get over how great of a singer she is. Her music hits a sweet spot for me- a rich combination of blues, country twang, folk introspection and soulfulness (yeah, sorry- had to say it). What else is worth checking for that's like Gillian Welch?

I was at a fancy bar the other night and they played one of her entire albums. So nice. I find it interesting that Welch's music worked so well in such a place (pictured below) and the music fits just as easily driving down a dirt road in an old pickup.

A while ago I made a comp of folk/rock/country/blues/jazz stuff that some of Gillian Welch's tunes fit with. Check it out if you like.

Two things are for sure. The lady can sing and she knows how to cover a song. You can download the 2009 Newport show from NPR.

I ride hard for Miss Ohio. One of the best songs of the last decade.
