Where Were You When The Lights Went Out?

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the 1977 NYC Blackout!
I remember my dad rocked his 'where were you when the lights out' Tee till it was a threadbare rag. Few people realize the blackout gave the then nascent hip hop culture a huge boost - why?

Because aspiring writers and dj's with no paint or equipment all went out and looted the paint, speakers, turntables and mixers they had no way of getting hold of previously - sparking a whole barrage of new crews.

Grandmaster Caz and DJ Disco Wiz reminisce about the blackout happening in the middle of one of their street jams...
