    What is shamful?
That there is major league eating?
Or that some guy not a member of MLE disrupted the 4th of July contest?
Or that the guy wasn't allowed to compete because he belonged to another league?

That such a thing exists & seems to be quite popular.

I've never seen it as quite popular other than on the 4th of July and sometimes a rare ESPN special event or something. But that Kobayashi moment will definitely boost the attention it gets.

I agree, it's gross. Nasty enough to warrant use of the overused adjective "gross."
I'm a slow eater, by the way, the person you wait for to finish at the restaurant.

I remember awhile back smoking a blunt at a friend's house and FOX's "The Glutton Bowl" was on TV. Having just smoked, I was a little too close to being "there" if you know what I mean. Handled the sushi, the monkey brains and even the hot dogs OK. But the event where they had to scarf down bowls of straight up mayonnaise took me over the edge and I had some dry-heave action.

Got a little laugh yesterday when interviewed the winner from Nathan's and he said he felt "weird" after eating 50 hot dogs in 10 minutes. I was like, "No shit?"

a buddy of mine went to the coney july 4th a few summers back and there's a whole nother side to it you don't see on tv. the roman christians and lions pictures are apt because after the event is over it becomes a total vomitorium. pretty much every contestant pulls the trigger and lets loose -- who's going to keep ~25+ hot dogs in their system? the sodium alone would put a hurt on you.
