damn will be missed, heart breaking voice and a half. and godammn this is eerie, but this is the SECOND time in the last month or so that I listened to an artist the prior night after a while not listening to them for a while, and I go on soulstrut the next day and finding that they died that night. i was listening to his solo stuff yesterday,it is seriously freaking me the phuck out...last artist that it happened with was Laurel Aitken. i think i'l watch the beuna vista social club dvd as tribute.
I just read this on Yahoo and I'm completely saddened by it. He was an incredible voice and from what was said about him, a wonderful person. He will definitely be missed. Along with Compay Seguno and Ruben Gonzalez.
crazy fact about Mr. Ferrer..
"Originally from Cuba's eastern city of Santiago, Ferrer was born on Feb. 20, 1927, during a dance at a social club after his mother unexpectedly went into labor."
You don't know him, fine, but learn who he is and give the dead some respect. Don't trash any assemblence of his memory with your bullshit cheap ass racist jokes. Fuck off.
Heard an awesome tribute to him on the radio this afternoon, songs so beautiful I had tears in my eyes... the DJ was saying she was so glad she got to see him on the Buena Vista tour, while Cuban artists were still being allowed into the USA...he'll be missed, RIP.
Oh, and in answer to the query on how succesful the Buena Vista LP was in America, I was working at a record store when it was pretty fresh, and it sold almost as fast for us as Santana's Supernatural, which was setting sales records at the time...

this is a case of where ignorance is not bliss, it's a damn shame.
What an incredible spirit and vibrant soul Ibrahim shared through his music.
RIP Ibrahim.

I don't think many of his family and friends right now are seeing this as a tragic or sad thing for Ibrahim to pass on.
He's lived an incredible life and you could always see in his eyes that he's come this far because of the positive
way he's lived his life in Cuba and as a musician.
If anything, I would think that right now people in Cuba are celebrating his life and not mourning his death.
That is all. Happy Sunday batches.
