Im looking for something along the lines of Too Bad Jim by RL Burnside. A solid, heavy sounding backup band and a great singer. Even the jon spencer-sounding stuff is cool by me. Anything with heavy bass and drums would also be appreciated. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hound Dog Taylor. Born with 12 fingers, cut one of 'em off.

Any of his Alligator Lps are good.

Anything by Lightnin' Hopkins. Trust me, you'll be satisfied.

If you go with lightnin Hopkins make sure you scoop the early 50s electric stuff ala "move out boogie" , it will be along the lines of what you are asking...the 60s acoustic stuff isn't what you are looking for by your descrption...

This song is great, as is the album it came from (Hoodoo Man Blues), but I really don't see much of a connection between this and R.L. Burnside.
