I bid a sad farewell to Ms. Lena Horne, an amazing person. She was a legendary entertainer and a trailblazer for civil rights within her industry and country. Thus, she was far more than merely a beautiful face. Rest in peace, Ms. Horne. The world is better place because you were here.
This is a death that has affected me in a surprising way, mostly because I remember her from my youth on "Sesame Street," and "The Cosby Show." Lena Horne was one of the first entertainers I was ever aware of. The fact that I remember those shows indicates just how much talent she had, to make such an impression on me.
So, she became a figure whose life and impact I could learn more and more about as I became an adult, and it just made her talent (my first impression of her) seem that much greater.
One of those rare figures that I've really never known a world without...
