Most of the Yamashita Tatsuro albums are great. His older albums are REALLY dope. Great song writer and producer. The two live albums are nice.
Big_Chan, ive found most if his stuff kind of tacky....im even considering purging spacy. just a one tracker for me.
any other albums worth checking?
Matt, did you try that Niagra stuff? Or that Sugar Babe joint?
oh yeah, i forgot about sugar babe. ill have to check that one. regarding niagra, i usually skip right past their stuff. might need to re-think that strategy....
Sugar Babe, just gave it a spin... it's just average.
Yamashita is definitely an acquired taste... that J-Pop whine gets to me after 6 minutes usually... I'll e-mail you the good Niagra joint to get tho...
late 90's easy-listening/downbeat by a former member of Denki Groove, concurrent with the Shibuya-kei scene, but less club-jazzy. This album was great. Some others of his, also commercial-aviation themed were less so, but the above "Pan-Am; Sound of the 70's" has a number of gems. Also samples Ramsey Lewis.
the LP this single is taken from is fire...even though Ive only heard/own a handful of 70s J-Pop LPs...this one has got to be one of the better ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06Ys8OapedU (embedding disabled)
cant believe no one has posted some good ol boredoms
Huge cosign on OOIOO and Takemura Nobukazu too. Let us not forget Buffalo Daughter while we're at it. Also, Citrus are fucking great, but certainly not for everyone. Looks like there are some other Trattoria or even Escalator fans here?

i alwys felt that this was one of the very few really good listenable "turnatblist" albums.
..and there's a song on their first album called "BLUE LANGUAGE LAB" which is great.
