Faux, you're right about the "taken serious" part. That's one of the main reasons I like the guy. I saw an interview with him where he said he had no plans for an album 'cause he was just having fun making music for his boys. That may have changed since his popularity has risen, but it makes no sense to be mad at him for that. Don't like it? Ignore it. Simple as that.
I'm not really checking for him, and I don't think anyone else is either

How about having music that gets you hyped, but WITH good lyrical content? Or is that crazy talk in 2010?
My PERSONAL OPINION: Musically this stuff is really, really bad, lyrically its shit and the video is trash. It must be communicating something I completely don't understand, but this guy is popular in America, right? I'm not trying to start some heated debate about backpacker mentality, how disconnected I am from whatever scene he belongs to, or how since I'm European I lack a frame of reference. I just find this bad enough to make me really interested in what the reasons behind his popularity are.
Wait, did I just put down all the reasons why I don't understand this?

I remember when everyone was getting aerated over Tipsy or Chain Hang Low or Chicken Noodle Soup like that shit was the end of days, when really it's just some Disco Duck shit.
Waka Flocka has passed me by somewhat, but it's not difficult to see why a fairly charismatic, reasonably good-looking rapper with an effective line in dumb-catchy hooks might be hittin' with a particular demographic.
Beyond that, I'm not really checking for him, and S>I don't think anyone else is either./S>
Have you finally disconnected your line to the streets, Daniel? I can't speak for other cities but Waka is easily one of the more popular rappers in DC, to the point where he is doing shows here basically every other month. The most recent of these was under-18 only, if that gives you any perspective on his audience.
This is hard music to get you hype, not rap music to make nerds say "WHOA! SWEET LYRICALS, BRO!"
Shutup...thats a cop out. Ask MOP;...legends who do both:
They even worked with Preme. Take that, anything that's happened since 10 years ago.
Hell...they even unapologetically sold out on a track with those "I like girls that wear abercrombie" Chaunceys and they are still doper IMO than Wocka.

That is something that I have a problem with too.
Yes, really!! I mean, I *don't* like the guy, but that is an amazing record!! Probably the only good thing he'll ever do!!
"O Let's Do It" is ridiculous.
Beyond that, I'm not really checking for him, and I don't think anyone else is either. Hell, I don't think even he takes himself very seriously.
I'm amazed at the anger SoulStrut harbors towards a dude like that, but I guess I shouldn't be after all this time.
"anger"?
"chafed"
"chapped"
"suffering from rankled sensibilities"
what have you
I KNOW YOU SEE IT
Dudes' feelings were hurt over the name before they even heard the record.

RIF, dude.
People are checking for the song; they are not checking for him.
Nobody is salivating for an album full of Wacka Flocka Flamerz.
That is slightly reassuring.
Now, what does RIF stand for?

So his mom sits there hitting 'refresh' repeatedly for 6 hours a day?
