Downloaded The Bird and The Bee's "Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1: Hall & Oates" and I'm not hatting. Clon now. Smooth Indie folk-pop or pseudo chillwave?

Isn't the girl the daughter of Lowell George? And isn't the guy Lily Allen's main producer? Either way, I love that breathiness in her voice - definitely hits the spot. She's cute too. The tracks don't sound cheesy or too wrapped up in being appropriately retro. Personally, I think it's got a kind of "hipster Carpenters" vibe, but without any of the negative aspects you'd normally expect from something like that. Quite an achievement.

I love Hall & Oates to the bone, and have done since I was about 13, but the only problem I have with this is when it gets tied in with some kind of faux-ironic "OMG LOL 70s/80s K3WL" fashion-plate shit instead of being judged on its own terms, which it deserves to be. There's a genuine affection for the songs here, and I am most assuredly not mad at all.

i love hall and oates to the core born and raised in philly but this is shlocky and i also hate forced breathiness. neo faux lounge garbage that belongs in the nether reaches of a sirius radio black hole. i'd be in the nail salon like F*ck the world if this donkey shit came on.

Very corny. By the third track, the girl's voice seriously got on my nerves.

I like the Private Eyes one

  • i want to revise my opinion: this is just terrible. i mean god-awful, superficial, fashionista crap. i was prepared to give them points just for doing a hall and oates thing (a band i love along with many others here)but the more i think of it this is just plain wrong.

Damn, people are really goin' in on this. I honestly can't get that angry about something this innocuous. It goes without saying it's no substitute for the genuine article, but if I ever happened to hear this involuntarily somewhere, I certainly wouldn't leave the room or anything.
