so... my chick wants me to teach her how to DJ. not sure if this is a can of worms, a waste of time, or a team building experience. anyone undertake this project before? what was the outcome?i did this once with a gf in the past. she had great taste and an ear for music. i had her beat-matching and dropping records in time within a couple of hours. a few weeks later, i convinced her to make her debut at a party that i'd been booked for through her law school. i thought it'd be neat for her to drop a brief, pre-meditated set to surprise her classmates.long story short, going into the second record of her set, she missed her timing, freaked out / got frustrated and ran out of the venue, buggin. in trying to console her, she ended up slapping me in front of few of her classmates.talk about dj drama...

I was going to say go for it, what do you have to lose? Then I read the second part. So, yeah, I don't know.

My wife (then girlfriend) was one of the gogo girls I had dancing inside a chrome plated cage at my parties some 14 years ago. That was back when I was spinning french 60s pop, library funk, softporn soundtracks etc... when I switched to funk 45s and ditched the gogo cage, I had her spin some Latin Boogaloo records whenever I wanted to take a break during my 6-7 hour long sets. This was great. People (especially other girls) really dug it seeing a girl behind the decks and she always had great taste in music. As a matter of fact, I always had her give me the thumbs up before adding new records to my play-out crates. Back when I was buying expensive Funk 45s online, I always played her sound clips before hitting the "buy" button.

Now she works for the man and is kind of petrified her colleagues find out about her sordid past...

I had a homie/lover/friend who was a dj. I would accompany her to her wedding gigs. She would rock the dance shit and let me do the cocktail hours - jazz and shit.

She's still a working DJ. Weve taught each other a whole lotta shit over the years.

Now teachin' a shortie the music game is a whole 'nother project. Liking music and being a working DJ are two different animals that dont always crossover well...IMO.

    Home Cookin vs Line Chef.....

My ex and I used to dj parties together. She never really got the mixing completely down but she made great selections and was more of a dj personality than me, dancing and just looking good behind the decks and thus getting people into it...so we complemented each other well.

I don't see a bad side to this at all unless your S.O. has confidence/insecurity issues, in which case, DJing is the least of your concerns.

I've djed with my girlfriend a few times and everthing's been hunky-dory, but i have trouble keeping that 15 year old battle dj in me from getting competetive.

I don't know about dj'n. But, everytime I buy a woman a turntable we break up soon after. I don't buy turntables for women anymore. Lesson learned.

I felt this way about mixes. I didn't make one for my wife until after we got married, and that was only because she had been asking for a couple years.

My wife has great musical taste and knows how to mix pretty well. Before we had our baby she'd come to almost all of my gigs and would occasionally "watch the decks" while I peed or smoked or did both.

Wife's been trying to teach me to DJ for over a decade. She ought to give it up.

Nothing like a good simultaneous peesmoke.

One of my exes had a mild interest, but would always get tired of messing around after about ten minutes of trying to beat match.
