pcmr: The Vox Sambou stuff is cool, but what really excited me about the stuff I heard initially was the fact that a lot of it took the heavy organs and rolling 808 snares and other dirty south hallmarks, and added (at least on some songs) a double time Komba/Carnival feel. These dudes Chale Republic had a lot of really great stuff like that (Check "Ti Kle" on that their myspace which didn't make the mix, but I'm really f*cking with).
Also, the cover shot comes from a Rap Kreyol series by photographer David Zentz. You can see the whole series here. I asked him if he'd had any word from the people he met there since the earthquake, and he said he hadn't. Judging from a lot of the last myspace login dates, it's looks kind of grim, though I can imagine internet access isn't the easiest to come by right now.
