Kind of Blue, no question, that album is a monster that transcends genres. I love Giant Steps, but it doesn't seem to resonate with your average "I need to buy one Jazz CD to play in the background behind my dinner parties" person quite the same as Kind of Blue does.

The group on Kind Of Blue was incredibly well integrated, while the musicians on Giant Steps were just learning the music. Tommy Flanigan gets lost for a second on his solo on the title tune (a very difficult song), but to his credit he does recover well.

No point, just an observation, my reason for KOB was in the first part of the post.
