There's nothing wrong with widening the price range, so therefore it can be a $10-$40 record and all reasonable sale prices are taken into account. Excluding potentially useful information to achieve some kind of faux conciseness seems silly.

i say that is far too wide of a range and secondly that while any information is potentialy useful its just as important to interpret that data correctly and avoid red herrings.
going back to my example-do you think the fact that i could flip BJ2 to some uninformed person and that he now values it at $45 is relevant information you would take into consideration when placing a value on this record or merely an amusing anecdote? i mean is BJ2 now a $5-$45 record?

Someone's personal valuation of a record isn't sales data, which is what the range should be based on. A large enough collection of actual sales data showing Bob James 2 selling at or around $45 should qualify that price to be included in the range, as inconvenient as that may be.

^^^^^Still seeking to justify the price he paid for Diane & Carol
Not to beat a dead horse but I thought this was interesting and sheds some light on this record's origin and desirability (for those who care... maybe guy alcindor)... I was looking for a rip of The Cult's "Mail Must Go Through" this morning to put the Cult Theme on a mix and came across this blog... http://bentleyfunk.blogspot.com/
Coincidentally, the european press of this LP just got posted on there today under a different title (same track listing and all)... The Salsoul Invention's "Salsoul Explosion"... guessing legality issues prevented them from using the same name in Canada... did a bit more searching and saw that some of the 12's from this go for some loot especially the 'Soul Machine' single... http://www.collectorsfrenzy.com/Details.aspx?id=220338946459
Here's a couple of the better tracks that were on youtube...
