Soooooo, JKriss and I hit up a show a few months back and I picked up a 45 on this label. I can't remember for the life of me who the artist is but the song is "Claim Jumpin'", an awesome heavy soul song about jumpin' bail. The label dosen't come up 'round here too often and I was just wondering if y'all had any info on the label, other artists, etc. A google shearch tells me Mike Thevis, a porn/mafia mogal started it, any more info would be great. JKriss, you ad Dale doin' the show? Let her rip!!!P.S. the label with the owl is my next "pro" shirt endevor, will post photos.

Loleatta Holloway has one from '73
The Counts released a few LP's on this label (Love Sign, Funk Pump)
thats all I remember off hand
I knew about the Loletta Holloway and the Counts but that is all.
That davis dude is the one who made the bad disco albums I always pass up
Hungh...? Am I missing something, fill me in, fill me in (no homo)!
King Hannibal has a couple of sick hard funk/gospel 45's ("Truth Shall Make You Free" and "Wake Up") and an LP on the label, although it is a different design, I think it is the same label just earlier and doesn't have the "Hotlanta Sound" credo on it.
Edit: Guzzo corrected himself while I was typin', and I fixed my "Mighty" Hannibal to "King"

The first King Hannibal 45 listed on this list is essential raw funk and not hard to find.
Oh yeah that Hannibal dude has an LP on that label under the name King Hannibal.
That anti-herroin song is where its at!
Listen to any Johnnie Taylor (specifically "Hijackin' Love") and you'll see what I mean.
OT: Simone Peda??os and L.A.N. blow up my turntable
Mike Thevis -- Oak Park Heights (Minnesota) Correctional Facility, where the nation's former porn king and all-around bad egg is serving life for tax evasion, racketeering, bombing, extortion and, oh yes, some murders, two of which were committed after he broke out of prison to return to Atlanta to snuff the dirty rat who finked him out.
Thevis' daughter went to my high school and was a wild child. At one time Thevis owned something like 90 percent of all the dirty bookstores and peep shows in the Southeast. After he went to jail his house was sold (and inhabited by briefly) Cher and Greg Allman. Great neighjbors. Never asked them for records though.
WHAAAAAAATTT!?!?!
(please check "Up Jumped The Devil")
Your're sleeping.
Sweet, he's in my backyard. Pen pals maybe?
Wow, they (G&C) had to be SOME neighbors!
Marco? Blow them up? in a bad way? hungh? I cetainly hope so!
got plenty o' Johnnie Taylor, I'll go home later and see just what you're talking about.
Now that I think about it, the reason why I don't know the Johnny Taylor is because all mine are rinked Stax (and a sweet, unrinked Phil LA of SouL) copies from a family buy-out, Uggh.. why are they still around, teasing me? I'm sleeping.
And this is 666, sooo..
Believe it!
I've got that single on both labels, with nearly identical label designs... the LP is and cheap as well...
