..a thread for recommending good mac apps. I need a good ebay search tool for Mac.[/b]I used to use Auction Chief on my Pc, something similar would be great. I've been trialing GarageBuy but it's hopeless.I would recommend:Caffeine - a great little app for stopping your macbook from going to sleep, or more importantly, dimming during utube videos.iStat pro - a dashboard widget that monitors CPU, Memory, temps etc.Speed Downloader - I think Raj recommended this before on here, I can only co-sign.I also like 'Remote' that turns my ipod touch into a remote control for itunes.

DiskAid - Great for use with an iphone (A must IMO)
ClamXav - Virus software. Don't use it to often. But once in a blue moon.
Onyx - Maintenance & optimization tool. For deleting all temp files & caches, etc...
Skype on a mac works really great
Plex - Is awesome for use as a media centre
TechTools Pro 5 - diagnostic, repair, and maintenance utility.
Parallels - Is my virtual machine running Windows 7 for when I really need windows.
AppCleaner - I use this to uninstall. Seems to get all files. Works great

Cooliris for looking at pics online
Little Snitch - great firewall app.
Paragon - NTFS for OSX. A must if you deal with externals formatted to NTFS on the reg.
The Unarchiver - For compressed formats like RAR
That's what I can think of off the top of my head that I use.
As far as a remote.

Conection's a bit temperamental, but when does it's very good.
I'm kinda interested in this http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/25867 which goes a step further and gives you access to more of your mac.

have been finding wave editor pretty handy lately, has a host of file repair tools which are pretty dandy. it's shareware though.
-VirtualBox - FREE virtualization for running virtual operating systems (windows, linux, whatever) - I run Ubuntu through it without any problems
- Dropbox - sync files across multiple computers - share files with others (I share a music folder with some dudes I used to work with - nice way to share files)
-Airfoil - not free, but totally worth it (transmit any application's audio to airport express - not just iTunes)
-Toast Titanium - disc burning and more
-Disk Warrior - better than those other disk utilities for fixing directory issues
-Transmission - torrent client
-Transmit - FTP client (there's probably free alternatives which are just as good)
-Fugu - SSH Client
-Perian - quicktime plug-in suite
-Flip4Mac - windows media quicktime plug-in
Sounds like you need a new optical drive. I used to be a systems admin for ~300 macs. Used to happen sometimes.
If it's under warranty you're all good, if not you'll have to pay for someone to repair it or DIY. Either way I'd recommend an apple authorized service provider or apple retail store.
50% sale.

Baywatch - Really simple little script that reads the ebay auction you have open and puts a reminder in iCal.
Snes9x - Snes emulator
Genesis Plus (same page as above) - Genesis emulator
wiiji - lets you connect your wii controller through wifi so you can use it to play the above.
Now you can play 1000s of Snes and Genesis games on you mac.

Wow...awesome bundle for $50. Worth it alone for TechTool Pro, Parallels, and BetterZip.
My Recommendations:
1Password http://agilewebsolutions.com/products/1Password
TextExpander http://www.smileonmymac.com/TextExpander
Once you use either of those you will have them on any mac you use regularly
*Adding 2 more Audio Apps:
Audio Hijack Pro - let's you record high quality audio from any application on your mac??????Web browser, skype, etc. (http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/)
Quicktime Pro Upgrade - most people probably buy this but it makes Quicktime a lot useful for quick audio file editing etc.
Anyone?
Didn't know VLC can convert the files. I will look into that.
It can't.
I think he's saying vlc will play your .flv so you don't need to convert it. Or isquint is a good free converter.
What happens when you run it through iSquint? I use it all the time and it works great. Sometimes I'll get a video with just an audio track, which Debreaker takes care of. Apart from that, I've never had any problems.
I just get audio and that seems to be when I DL youtube videos. I'll check that program.
Not sure if this will work. I just pulled the app onto a thumb drive, brought it over to my work pc, zipped it (in Windows it appeared as an app folder), and uploaded it to DivShare. Though perhaps it needs to be a disc image (.dmg)?
