Favorite version of Frankie & Johnny?

I don't have one yet, but I listened to Taj Mahal's yesterday and Jimmie Rodgers just now. I figured I would see what other versions are worth checking.

    While you are checking out versions of Frankie and Johnny also check out Stagerlee.
    Closely related and many performers do both.
    Lloyd Price does Stagerlee, or Stack A Lee or some other variant.

    Thanks for the recommendations, everyone.

    Now that I'm not at work and have access to my drive, I did a search and found a version that I thought I would share. It's by Chris Smithers and comes from a compilation of Mississippi John Hurt covers.


    Here's that version by Taj Mahal.


    Right now my favorite is Mississippi John Hurt's original... that's where I fell in love with the song... just couldn't remember where when I started this post.
