V-Discs, or "Victory Discs", were records made during WWII specifically for American troops. A number of well known jazz musicians and pop singers of the time went into the military, while a few who served would become more well known as musicians.

There are many CD's and compilations with these recordings, whether you want full jazz, all pop, or a mixture of everything. They including Swingin' On A V-Disc[/b] and
V-Disc: The Songs That Went To War[/b].
You can also go here to listen to a few songs and see how a V-Disc was made:

Those are radio shows on 78rpm (Actually I'm not sure of the speed) discs that are 16". You need a transcription turntable to play them.
During WWII there was a musicians strike and a shellac shortage. So the number of commercial records made was limited.
Accapella groups like the Ink Spots and the Mills Bros were not covered by the musicians union so they could record.
For some reason the strike covered artists/songs under contract to ASCAP. That was right when Billy Strayhorne started working for Ellington. He showed up with Take The A Train. Since he didn't have a contract they gave the song to BMI and they were able to record it.
Or something like that.
There was just an anti-Hitler songs thread. Look for more more youtubes of songs you want there.
