Super Easy Itunes question....i think

so i finally picked up a new ipod (touch) and everything seems to be in order. I uploaded a handful of songs, downloaded a few apps, every things seems good thus far.but i have a small conundrum that i can't figure out, that never was apparent with my previous ipods.it seems that when i have my ipod connected to my computer, and i am going off itunes (where my ipod shows up as a 'device' in itunes), i cannot access my files (music, video, podcasts, etc) directly off my ipod (by selecting on device). so where as in the past, i would use itunes to access my ipod and organize/delete songs, make play lists, etc, i can't seem to get to them.basically, my ipod files are showing up as light-gray in itunes, as opposed to blackDoes this make any sense to anyone? If so, do i just have a setting incorrect? Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.
