When Big Stacks started a thread a while back about singers who almost blew up but didn't, Vernon Burch would have been a PRIME example. Talented singer/guitarist/writer, gigged with the Bar-Kays for a minute, and I believe he was in his late teens when this album was recorded, back in 1975. And even better, he was produced by Tom Wilson, who worked with the diversified likes of Bob Dylan, the Velvet Underground, the Mothers of Invention, the Animals and Maximillian.I've been reluctant to pick up his other albums due to my own post-disco paranoia, but the album shown above kills it. Not quite modern soul, but obviously leading up to it, right in the same vein with Angelo Bond's Bondage and J.R. Bailey's Just Me 'N' You. Discuss...
