The Producer of this movie died recently. Read his NYT obit and was fascinated to read about this seminal 1966 release. I was surprised that I had never even heard of this film, even as a Black Studies major in college. Probably the first really important CR documentary. Unbelievably real schitt record of one Pastor's attempt to start an interracial dialog in his Omaha congregation. Heartbreaking and so on point. Here's the trailer, full doc available below:

    Great film...thanks for posting.

Would love to see a follow up where they interview the young kids in 2009 and get their take on how things have changed.

Rich, couldn't find much about the preacher Youngdahl but the barber, Ernie Chambers, went on to become a lawyer and Nebraska state senator for over 2 decades. Here's the link.

    RAD. Thanks DrWu.

    You're welcome.

    (WARNING PLOT REVEAL)

Didn't you find yourself wincing as the young Rev wound his way to the realization that even talking about race was beyond his supposedly liberal/Christian congregation's ability to cope? I found it gripping.
