Nice look, Jonny!

... and it cracks me up how The Thing continues to be the most blown-up
non-secret "secret spot" in the history of secret spots.

  • beautiful dude!

DOPE! It's well deserved, my man.

Can't believe they skipped Groove Merchant and Friends of Sound (Thes was just here rocking the F.O.S. shirt). I need to get back to Austin this year.

    Grown + Sexy = This

  • Unless Philly Record Exchange has gotten a lot better in the last few years they should replace that shit with Plan 9 in Richmond. I know the record exchange used to be the spot, but that shit fell the F*ck off.

    Props to Good Records.

That's great, and totally deserved--it's the best record store I know.

  • Congratulations on your success, Johnny.

  • This is me grumbling about the inclusion of Waterloo.

Maybe our store will get on people's radars eventually. Thanks for the nod, DJ Day.

    Amen to that!

  • "The L.A. (Amoeba) branch is the largest music store in the U.S. If you can???t find it here, give up."

    OK, I give up.

Seriously, congrats to Jonny and anyone else mentioned in the article. It's amazing when these general audience features get anything right about record stores.

flossin' the historic pres. type thing, nice floors, and is the ceiling real tin?
you probably got the oldest spot in that group.

screw the spot they have from my hometown-earxtacy, too much new and just got into used vinyl a year ago, but was also on spot for new electronic, house,& the rap.

The best thing about this list is that none of my spots are on it.

All reports over the past few years have indicated that Plan 9 fell the F*ck off too, but I haven't been there so I can't confirm.

  • Congrats, Jon@th@n Sklute. Well deserved honor...

Thats just because Fatback scoops up all the good shit, the employees let slip through, before anyone else has a chance.

    Congrats to Johnny and Good!

No disrespect to DJ Hut(thrilled they are still in it after 2 fires and I am a repeat customer), but I wouldn't put them in the top 3 in DC area(or even DC proper) let alone a trans-continental best of for vinyl shops. Great for the latest in 12"s, unbeatable in the area for that and other DJ related items, but not what comes to mind as a serious record store. New stuff only with very few exceptions. If you feel the need to represent DC, GQ, maybe some other spot might have been a more interesting choice. But hey, congrats to DJ Hut!

    DOPE, Mr. Paycheck.

I love this policy from that shop in Columbus, Ohio:

Owner Chuck Kubat pulls anything that doesn???t sell two copies a year

Don't know what fate awaits those records that he pulls, but it would help slim down the inventory of so many shops.
