So anyone got a good way of doing this? Finally upgraded the old set, so now I got a flatscreen with mad inputs, yo. I hooked the laptop up to it last night, fusked with the resolution, and had shit looking really good, movies from rapidsahre, hulu, etc. My question is, since my dvd player is dead and needs to be replacd, is there anyway I can just do this all from my computer? I'm thinking some kind of box, with an ethernet connection and an hdmi out? Anyone know of anything? I'm not too choosy about hd, but I dont want it looking like ass. Not much of a gamer, but I hear xbox 360 or ps3 may do this, question is will web shit work (hulu, etc)? I'm really trying to stream, as opposed to converting or transferring files...

To connect your PC to the TV, you might just need a VGA cable. Most flatscreens these days have a VGA input, so you just connect that to the VGA out on your computer and you should be good to go. If you don't have this, you might need to get an adapter or a new video card with HDMI output.

Once you have that working, try Boxee for the interface. The PC version is in closed beta right now, but there are torrents widely available. You can watch internet video and anything on your computer through an interface that is designed to be simple to navigate with a wireless remote.

I just bought a wireless keyboard w/ built-in mouse so I can use the internet from the couch to bring my laziness to the next level.

If you're a little more tech-savvy, you can buy a tv-card for your computer and use it like a DVR.

Yeah, I had the laptop plugged in vga, with wireless mouse as 'remote', but its kind of a pain, thats why i was hoping for a settop box that i could stream to. I guess I could just buy a long vga cable and run it around the edges of my tiny living room....

I'll look into boxee, how does the remote work? Ir? Wifi?

    Mine is 2.4ghz RF.

This is the one I bought:

There are other options as well that work more like a normal TV remote:
Just saw this on eBay for 20 bucks:

    Might cop that as well.

One of my coworkers just started talking about Boxee at lunch, apparently I've got an invite in my inbox from a couple months ago, will have to investigate.

That keyboard looks cool, hows it feel?

So, I think I'm going to go with a 50ft vga cable from my pc, seems like that will eliminate any streaming/networking/converting issues, hopefully the runs not too long. I was hoping to get away with a sub $100 box, so doing this with a $20 cable is whats up, especially since the pc already has audio hooked into the stereo. Zen2, thanks for all the

It is really killer with a Wii or other internet enable console. Can stream DIVX movies without having to intall any codecs on the console itself.

Also looks really sweet for the iphone, being able to stream Tv/movies/music to it from anywhere.
