Write Ur Own Reference Letter

I asked one of my professors to write me a letter of recommendation. He told me that since he's busy, I should just write the letter myself, and then give it to him to submit electronically to the program. He said to make myself sound as wonderful as I want.An interesting assignment, but I do not know where to start...If you all had to write your own a letter of reference what do you think would be the best adjectives, statements, etc. to include? Ideal reference letter-related.Humor is welcome ; )

He is the one who will be submitting it, not me. He will probably "add his own personal touches" to my letter once I get it to him. No real way for the program to know, as I have not mentioned any names on this forum, and he was smart enough to talk to me about it in person and not via email. Loopholes, you know?

Procrastinates, is on soulstrut far too much wastes time..... JUST KIDDIN.
These things are only meant to be one big long paragraph, just bust a move and write one even if it's a simple draft and then you can add to it. and then post it here, we can edit it for you.
i remember those giant lecture classes where you would ask the prof for a recommend and he would be like 'and you are....??'

i only asked profs who I knew

  • Here's a start, feel free to add on and embelish:

    To Whom it May Concern,

I am privileged to write in support of my dear friend and student, Almond. Almond studied in my classroom and for close to three years, during which time I witnessed her tremendous growth and development. This development came not only in the area of [whatever you study], but in maturity and character as well.

Almond entered [school you go to] at the young age of 18, a precocious high school graduate. At first, she had difficulty accepting her place as a young, less experienced college student. But soon, she learned the valuable trait of humility, and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from her older peers and her professors.

Almond quickly learned to manage her time, work in group situations under strict deadlines, and to recognize the importance of a strong work ethic, persistence, and intellectual integrity. She has long since become the most valuable member of my student team, and a role model for her newer classmates.

I recommend Almond to your program with absolute confidence. She has made me proud, as her teacher and friend, and I am sure will continue to do so as she grows in your program and beyond.

Thank you for the opportunity of correspondence,

    Sincerely,

Just go thru some of Omana's past speeches, especially his election campiagn ones, Im sure you'll find plenty of nice phrases and terms you can 'remix' to fit you.....

Nah on the real, I have actually done my own 'reference letters' in the past and the best way to do it is tto pretend your wirting it for another person, pick someone you admrie and who is talented in their field and then ad your name. I find it comes off more 'real' than if your consciously writing about yourself, cus you may either over do it or hold back on self praise....

Or ask someone succesful that you know to let you look at a similiar kind of letter they may have and copy the style and flow of that, tweeking when neccesary....

    My 5 cents...

    That is beautiful, Almond.

especially the part about the Hindi class picture, and the big-picture contribution to the campus.

  • By the way I actually review admissions for a grad program, so if I sound a little salty, that's why.

then why dont you email her a few examples of letters that got your attention, help her write one that would get her admitted.....

We need more record collectors in powerful positions!!!
