We have had about 11 inches (27.9 cm) of snow here in Portland, OR and of course people have lost their minds (we just don't get much snow here). This is the second highest snow fall recorded here in PDX (you have to got back 40 years before there was more). b, 21b, 21While it has been stressful during the day dealing with morons that drive full speed on ice and snow without traction devices, however the snow at night is beautiful. Here are a few pics I snapped this evening:b, 21b, 21My ride. All wheel drive with Spikes Spiders. Have Traction, Will Travel.b, 21img src="http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn252/Saracenus/Snow Day/SpikeSpiders.jpg"1b, 21b, 21My Backyard. Had to dig out paths for the pugs, it was too deep for them to get their business done.b, 21img src="http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn252/Saracenus/Snow Day/BackYard.jpg"1b, 21b, 21The local hardware store. I love neon and snow.b, 21img src="http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn252/Saracenus/Snow Day/SnowAndNeon.jpg"1b, 21b, 21Walkin' in the street. I don't know why Portlanders walk in the street because the sidewalks were just fine. Its also a hazard considering how crazy fast the SUV drivers are driving here. Then again we have people that bike in this stuff (I couldn't get the camera out fast enough to catch one today).b, 21img src="http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn252/Saracenus/Snow Day/StreetWalker.jpg"1

  • I just took the bus home from downtown to North Portland. Bus rides in this weather are always epic voyages but I am ill equipped for driving in the snow. It is really beautiful to see the city covered in thick snow, but I fear that in a few days it will turn into the dirty urban snow that I remember from NY and Boston. I never knew that so many people owned ATVs in my neighborhood until I saw them ripping around in deserted snow covered streets this weekend.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I feel your pain on the bus trip. I used to go from NE to downtown and back again for school and it just takes forever when the bus system is on a snow schedule.b, 21b, 21I cosine on the beauty of PDX when snow covered. But, I wouldn't worry too much about the snow gettin' dirty, it just doesn't last that long here. Figure one more day of cold and snow and by Tuesday the rain will turn it into a slushy flood. Hopefully we don't get hit with another Arctic Blast by Christmas because all that slurry getting refrozen would be a nightmare.b, 21b, 21On the ATV tip, we had a guy blazing through the neighborhood on a snow mobile and a father and son team were racing their dirt bikes. Though my neighborhood has more cross-country skiers and sledders than off roadders.
