  • Harvey, feel free to chime in on how O'Reilly is 100% on point with this portrait of SF.

Everything he describes I saw there, accept I don't remember ever seeing anyone smoking dope on the street. b, 21Maybe in the park, I don't remember. b, 21b, 21The great thing about this video is in Omaha, Tulsa and all over this country, there were 13yo kids sitting with their families watching this. And those kids were saying to themselves, hey if SF accepts those people, they will accept me.

I wonder if crime is really lower in NYC than SF. b, 21I doubt it. b, 21The only difference is acceptance of people who seem different.

  • b, 21b, 21Well, he really didn't say much but he's pretty much on the noise on a lot of things. SF advertises an alternative culture that attracts both good and bad elements.

  • Quote:h, 21b, 21bill said almost every city has a tenderloin district, north beach in san francisco is that. what's the tenderloin then? b, 21b, 21h, 21
    b, 21b, 219th level of hell?

  • forget smoking weed on the streets! 75% of the time i'm in the mission, i see at least one person if not a group smoking crack!

b, 21b, 21I get your point. I noticed he said that too. b, 21I was surprised to find out (years ago) that The Tenderloin was actually a neighborhood in SF and not a description of a part of town with prostitution.b, 21b, 21It's funny seeing O'Rielly shocked- SHOCKED - to hear that people are legally using medical marijuana. Why aren't they abusing real perscription drugs, like real Americans - just like him?

This is a pretty weak hit piece. There are homeless people, gay people, and weed-smokers in SF--stop the presses!

  • Quote:h, 21b, 21btw- they make look sf pretty tame -- at least to me. forget smoking weed on the streets! 75% of the time i'm in the mission, i at least see one person if not a group smoking crack! b, 21b, 21h, 21
b, 21b, 21Yeah. SF should be ashamed of Mission St. Especially around the 16th St BART. It's a major transportation point and it's littered with drug dealers, prostitutes and drunks. I was once asked by some cracked out old lady if "I would like to get some sex", for a while there was some brazen drug dealer that would walk around the block screaming "Cocaine! Who wants cocaine!". Dude escorted me past some crack heads once (I didn't ask to be escorted). If I ever felt like I was about to be mugged it was then. Dude disappeared after a while. I can only imagine he was arrested.b, 21b, 21SF needs to hire some beat cops to walk up and down that street.

b, 21b, 21You're confusing him with Rush Limbaugh.

  • b, 21b, 21yeah, that's 2006 though. still a pretty big gap between sf and ny though. i know this year my neighborhood alone has been going off with the gang related shootings

b, 21b, 21One night in my old neighborhood police were almost run over by a car being driven by one shooting victim while they were dealing with a completely different shooting victim. I would hear shots now and then. Saw a shooting on Market St. in broad daylight. Would see lots of drug use (crack mostly, not much weed believe-it-or-not). Lots and lots of drug addicts. Homeless everywhere.

Okay, keep in mind O'Reilly is trying to present San Francisco in a certain light. He's not trying to get a unbiased opinion of it. He knows that San Francisco is in the forefront of the fight for legal gay marriage and other progressive issues. He wants to make that look SOOOOO fucked up to the rest of America that they think that the country will turn to shit if we make gay marriage legal, or make marijuana legal or whatever he's claiming happens here. Shit is fucked up everywhere. I've lived her for 5 years and I don't feel like it's some major shit hole. Yeah there are parts that suck, 16th & mission being one of them, the tenderloin being another but stick that correspondent in Bed-Stuy or Detroit or even West Oakland and see what his feelings are. I think San Francisco's shittiness is just more evenly dispersed. Instead of having REALLY fucked up areas, it's just all kind of fucked up - some areas more than others.b, 21b, 21And why would you want to go to the Presidio at night anyway?b, 21b, 21F*ck O'Reilly. He's a douche, plain and simple.

  • Crime is definitely higher in SF than NYCb, 21b, 21Lay off the Mission hatt!

  • I love it when the hippies piss and moan that this rabble is driving their home prices down.b, 21b, 21S.F. is a dump, the Haight is full of agressive panhandlers and drug addicts; whatever refuse drifted up from southern California. I lived at 400 Hyde in the Tenderloin for two years and it was just one big wave of human polution. Except for me, of course.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Faked stats. It's crime free here. The carbomb that went off across the street a couple of months back was an "accident".

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21i wonder how this year compares. i just found out someone was shot to death Sunday night on 22nd & Valencia around 10pm. and last night someone was shot in front of Fuse in North Beach.b, 21b, 21i still love this city though. funny that the Presidio is mentioned as a shady place in that vid. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wtf.gif" alt="" /1 watch out for George Lucas!

Edith: According to the burbed site, the murder rate in SF in 2006 was 11.5. According to FBI stats for 2008, the rate is now 12.8. Part of that was likely influenced by the fact that SF is losing its population these days too. b, 21b, 2112.8 puts SF ahead of cities such as:b, 21Los Angeles (?!?!?!)b, 21Las Vegasb, 21Jacksonvilleb, 21San Antoniob, 21Sacramentob, 21b, 21On the flipside, SF is still ahead of Newark and D.C. (not to mention the top 3 cities in Ohio) img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/oof.gif" alt="" /1

Not a single mention that New Orleans is far and away the U.S. crime capitol.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Shittiness redistribution to make all areas equally shitty, how progressive.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21I don't see that at all. SF has a fairly high degree of segregation, even if the dividing lines are often a single street.

font class="post"1b, 21b, 21Truth. Just look at the world of difference between Valencia and Mission St and they're one block parallel to each other.b, 21b, 21Or the Potrero Terrace/Annex Projects vs the rest of the Potero Hill.b, 21b, 21img src=http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1242/533940206_1c387e5324.jpg1

that's always been one of my favorite things about SF: the millionaires are forced to interact with people living on the streets. Their street, even.b, 21b, 21LOL at what passes for a "reporter" these days...b, 21b, 21war correspondants from the front lines, this dude's never been to San Francisco.
