i used to have turbine(blizzard's major competitor) as a client. drove up to their offices just outside boston a couple years ago when lord of the rings was laaunching. walking to a conf room at 10am was the spookiest shit ever. we passed thru like 200 programmers in their cubes, the entire floor was pitch black except for the glow of their screens. freaked me out.

i don't get these games. so for the turbine stuff, i thought i should familiarize myself with the client's product, signed up for one of those free one week D&D accounts and thought it was kind of fun at first.b, 21b, 21i got as far a third level ranger or something. it was a lot like og D&D but towards the end of the trial i started noticing dudes sprinting through dungeons. i kept typing "where are you guys" then they told me to turn my microphone on. wtf? didnt have one but they taught me how to turn audio teleconference on. these dorks had maps memorized after playing each level dozens and dozens of times.b, 21b, 21can't understand how rote replaying and replaying and grinding out of levels could be any fun. hearing their bored voices kind of freaked me out too. canceled that shit.
