Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21b, 21b, 21Great f**kin rock record. And cosign on the Weezer (actually, just their first two records). b, 21b, 21h, 21
b, 21b, 21I dispute the guiltiness accorded to this one. It's pretty much an acknowledged 90s rock classic. Double that for Weezer's first two albums. No one should really look at you askance for those.b, 21b, 21Now Weezer's other albums... there you have a case
Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21I ride for Nick Cave's entire output and don't give a shit that he attracts the most horific following on both sides of the atlantic.b, 21b, 21( b, 21b, 21h, 21
b, 21b, 21Me too. I also really like Bob Welch's "Sentimental Lady", "Seasons in the Sun" -the first four seconds are like perfect vintage Tommy James, and "Total Eclipse of the Heart", wch borrowed its melody from a song on the first Ford Theatre lp. And "Careless Whisper" is good.

b, 21b, 21This is from Footlight Parade (1933).b, 21b, 21The visuals are amazing of course. The point was that I love campy show-tunes like these. b, 21b, 21h, 21b, 21b, 21The Golddiggers Of 1933 is img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/melt.gif" alt="" 21. Evil looking Billy Barty with a can opener, Ginger Rogers singing in pig latin...b, 21b, 21Anyhow,b, 21b, 21Blue Cheer (yes, I know...one step away from "Blueshammer" type stuff. Who cares, I love that fuzz)b, 21b, 21Reel Big Fish and others (yes, I know...an insult to real ska and it's white frat boy business. BFD.)b, 21b, 21Elevator music bossa nova
I have another one: Prelude to a Kiss (the film). Romantic dramedy with Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin as young newlyweds. (I can hear the groaning already.) On their wedding day she kisses an old man and switches souls with him. As terrible as the premise is, it's just a weird, quirky, oddly touching movie, and I can't really explain why but I love it.b, 21b, 21It pleases me that Singin' in the Rain is getting some much-deserved appreciation here. I wouldn't have expected it. You all are a surprising bunch.

One deep until I die, so your help I refuse it. b, 21b, 21But y'all already knew that.

b, 21b, 21b, 21I think 'Prelude to a Kiss' was a play first. I always thought it was a much more interesting movie than the premise would suggest.
Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21cmon people - spill it a little harder - AC/DC, Bee Gees, Nick Cave, Laughing Hyenas, Hall and Oates? These are GREAT and WIDELY ACCEPTED as great. The people who are admitting to Paul Simon and Zooropa got the idea. b, 21b, 21h, 21
b, 21b, 21b, 21b, 21since i didnt get the idea, ill go with al stewart. b, 21b, 21 are we supposed to say some obvious non obvious shit like joan armatrading, jeff buckley, ricki lee jones, captain beefheart, or meatloaf ?b, 21b, 21paul simon and u2 arent widely accepted as great ? b, 21im bombarded by paul simon and u2 quite often.

b, 21b, 21I know several legitimate blues bands that are closer to Blues Hammer than Blue Cheer were. They're alright with me, nothing guilty 'bout that pleasure. I've been walking around wearing a B.C. T-shirt for two summers in a row now.

No need be ashamed at all. Never heard of Blueshammer but that is an awful name.
Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21is zooropa the era of u2 where they had a gigantic lemon on stage b, 21b, 21h, 21
b, 21b, 21Nope. That was for "Pop."b, 21b, 21I'll defend half of Zooropa; I recall that Eno had some nice touches on some of those songs. I'm not into Rattle and Hum or The Joshua Tree, but Achtung and Zooropa (which should have stayed EP-length) really did have some good songs and production. I'm not sure how much of that was Eno and how much was the group themselves, but some folks here (not A*****, necessarily) should cut these douches some slack. I mean, people are defending Puddle Of Mudd and The Goo Goo Dolls on here. Is Bush next? Takers on Seven Mary Three, anyone? Sheesh.b, 21b, 21Or maybe, just maybe, I need to listen to this album again and re-think my support of it, after at least 8 years without hearing it.

In the process, I augmented that with a sense of scope when I used PoM and TGGD, groups that I wasn't commenting on per se. Keep that in context. And to imply that I am SoulStrut's ill-restrained "worst offender" is flatly silly. I might have my swings, but I usually come with substance and knowledge.b, 21b, 21If I am to be tried for breaking some nebulous harmonious spirit or "safe harbor concept," then the least that I can do to appease you should be to leave this as a salvo:b, 21b, 21I will ride for the pleasant novelty of most Squirrel Nut Zippers songs.[/b]b, 21b, 21Are we even-Steven now?
b, 21b, 21Heh. Thank god. The countermeasures worked. img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" 21b, 21b, 21Seriously, though, try their songs "I Raise Hell," "My Evergreen" or "St. Louis Cemetary Blues." Good stuff.

b, 21b, 21Huh. Never seen it, but I'd snag it from the cover alone.b, 21b, 21And of course, the Zippers bit NOLA Hot Jazz, Django Reinhardt, Fats Waller, and Al Casey (etc.) like there was no yesterday. But the folks (Andrew Bird was a member) actually can play their instruments.
I ride for 'Hearts and Bones' by Paul Simon, the first half of Maladroit by Weezer, the entire Smiths catalogue, The La's, Manic Street Preachers minus the last few albums, Oasis, Fiona Apple, 808s and Heartbreaks.
