Yeah might as well just delete this thread - just some cornball herb who's input / existence is completely a waste.

font class="post"1b,121b,121I've heard a lot of talk that there is no Bradley effect per se, but that some folks who won't vote for Obama because he's black are just telling pollsters that they're Undecided. So, not the Bradley effect in that they're not saying they will vote Obama, then switch in the booth, but still hiding the fact that they've made up their mind about the race. b, 21b, 21We'll see how the Undecideds break tomorrow. In an election involving an incumbent, the Undecideds usually break against the incumbent, But with no incumbent, If they're truly undecided, they'll split.

In that there are many plausible reasons any racist could give for not voting for Obama that are beyond his race. (Thin resume', pro-choice, etc, etc.) b, 21b, 21Point being, beyond pockets of very liberal areas in the US, I don't see why any racist wouldn't just use a more convincing excuse to say they are not voting for Obama than actually lie to a pollster.b, 21b, 21b, 21As for undecideds, there is one small pocket I could see out there (maybe not now, but as of a few weeks ago). Fiscal conservatives (i.e. rich people) that are anti-tax but also not necessarily big on the right-wing moral issues of the Republican party. I could see a person who doesn't agree with Obama's tax plan, but also isn't willing to jump on board the right-wing nutjob express either.b, 21b, 21Beyond that group, not sure who could really be still on the fence.

  • i'm decided, but i can understand if someone's vote is up in the air. if you are not a fan/supporter of either candidiate, then you might not believe in either candidate's platform. clearly the two are different but if neither fits into what you might believe, then it could be difficult to back a plan in which you don't believe. it doesn't necessarily have to be about the bradley effect.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Explain how voting or not voting for someone based on their race alone is not racism by the very strict definition of the word.

  • I'm voting for McCain. But if all I knew about the candidates was their race, I would vote for the black man because I think having a black president is a net benefit in light of our nation's white supremacist history. That doesn't make me racist. It makes me anti-racist, or eracist.

  • The idea that black voters are racist if they are turning out for Obama solely because he's also black is a gross oversimplification of... everything.b,121b,121It presumes that these black folks would be voting for McCain if Obama was white. I don't have to remind anyone that black voters are in the vast majority Democratic and that the "if Obama was white then..." scenario would most likely result in many of them simply staying home, rather than voting for the other party.b,121b,121Doesn't hold water.

  • I'm not going to pull the racism card on this, but the fact that someone is undecided at this point is mindblowing.b,121You're just not paying much attention or you're a complete idiot. I think your right to vote should be taken away for a while if you sit this one out.b,121b,121ALSO - can we please figure out a way to get rid of the f*cking Yes on Prop 8 ad that is on this site as I type?!?

I think that everybody with half a brain left should by now have come to the conclusion that there's really only one way this can go. If Obama doesn't win this, it'd me a major catastrophy. Not only does McCain clearly not have a believable concept ready how he's going to get you all out of this economic debacle, he just more or less fell apart during this campaign. This series of negative attacks and the constant steering away from the issues should have made it clear enough to even the most convinced republican that it is his patriotic plight to vote for Obama. Who would even want to seriosly picture Palin as a vice president? This shit isn't even funny anymore. The US would in the best case scenario end up as the laughing stock of the rest of the world. Seriously, don't let this happen. McCain is at best incompetent, he's not crazy but Palin is a raving lunatic. Even if nothing happens to McCain during his term, you can "betcha" that Palin will jump at any possibility to get some attention and that's never going to be pretty, it's going to be very, very embarrassing and if something does happen to McCain? -That's not far fetched, he's what 72? With a history of cancer? Who would seriously want to risk this? Beyond any reasoning of tax models and other different political positions, if you don't just know what you have to do here, there's something wrong with you. McCain shouldn't even land in the 40s.

But the charge of racism has its moral power because of our nation's unique history. Being a racist in 1964 meant you favored maintaining legal inequality between blacks and whites, it meant you favored keeping the federal government away from local and state governments overseeing a racial caste system. To vote for Obama because you see his presidency as the final corrective, or an important corrective, to this legacy is not racist.
