the only thing I hate are warehouse parties with cold concrete floor. Other than that, as long as it's fun, I prefer longer sets to short ones. My longest ever was 11 hours and I had a blast... 6 hours is not long at all. My parties in Berlin lasted from 10:00 until past 6:00 in the morning that's 8 hours on the regular, twice a month for 5 years.

When spinning Funk 45s I usually had 350-400 45s with me, average playing time of a funk 45 is probably around 2:30 minutes which still leaves you with 14+ hours worth of records.

i remember playing a pretty long set north of copenhagen at some kinda school years ago, the only gig where i actually broke a record, it was at this school basement, no airconditioning, real hot and a sun record with a disco/brazilian track i played frequently slipped outta my hand and hit the concrete floor img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/breakface.gif" alt="" /1 that was the last time i ever played that sun joint.. anyway, we set things up at around 6- 7 pm, i played from 8- 9 pm all the way through to 7- 8 in the morning.. quite a stretch, cant remember having saw feet though, sure the booze must have killed the pain!! img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lush.gif" alt="" /1

font class="post"1b,121b,121it's half wanting to keep the dancefloor's attention: like if you play more than two verses and two choruses sometimes people stop dancing as much, and the other half is the DJ's attention span... playing commercial clubs would be 10 times worse if you had to play songs for more than like 3 minutes each.b,121b,121really it's just about keeping it moving, but I will admit some DJs take it too far, playing all the songs for just one verse and one chorus, and if it is obvious your crowd is into a song you should let it play out.

  • oh and for me it's not my feet - it's my back

font class="post"1b,121b,121i think the longest i've played is somewhere between 5 and 6 hours, but mostly its 4 hour sets. unless i am wearing shoes that would hurt my feet no matter where i was, they're usually good. i play at one place on concrete floor in a very limited space.... 1 1/2 feet by 4 feet... my back kills me after about 2 hours....

Pop some ginseng, and get back out there for 6 more!!!

font class="post"1b,121b,121Exactly.b,121b,121I used to start at 9. And if i got there earlier, sometimes 8, if i was juiced to play some stuff.b,121b,121But really within all those hours the real heat only lasts like 3 hours. Everything else is build up time and come down time.
