Downloaded the Q-Tip & Illa J albums last night and was bumpin them today while working.b, 21LOVE the Q-Tip, great album save the last 2 tracks. Shits quietly on Pete Rock & Large Pro's recent releases.b, 21The Illa J, while I still feel it's exploitive, is pretty damn cool. Unreleased Dilla beats from '95? img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jeigh.gif" alt="" /1 and his little brother comes across better than expected.b, 21New Mushroom Jazz sneaked out as well, alright.b, 21Cosmic Force 12".b, 21Siji dropped a new album that might be something?b,121Jazzanova?

font class="post"1b,121b, 21One of the best albums of the year. It shows the old style of the group a bit, but they're not completely stuck in 1996, there's some level of maturity and development. They realize they're now the elders, but aren't willing to stop pulling verbal pranks. Most of the production is alright, but is it me or has the mastering on some of the Duck Down albums lately been somewhat "eh"? Production is fine as is, but there are times I wish some elements were tweaked a bit better.

  • oh yeah Illa J. I grabbed "we're here" and thought it was decent, will check online. b, 21b, 21Oh snap cosmic force, need that as well (also the new dimitri re-edit 12'' and midnight express re-issue)b, 21b, 21Jazzanova? yeah man, they got leon ware and dwele on that album, a lot of random folks (real world and internet) have said it's impressive.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21Those expecting something similar to In Between/b1 will be upset. Anyone who has followed Jazzanova and every remix and offshoot they've done in the last years will understand some of the transitions and different styles, although it still sounds very much like Jazzanova.

Misleading thread title alert!b,121b, 21Should be "Recent and Kufitastic Releases" or some such foolishness.

Jeezy is the album of the year so far for me. b, 21b, 21Heltah Skeltah album is also way better than I expected.

  • I picked up the Black Milk. Starts and ends really strong.b,121b,121Skimmed through the Jazzanova, while not every song is my cup of tea there's some tight songs on it. A little too grown for me yo.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Despite some initial enthusiasm, I realized that J&J album sounds pretty good from the middle distance but once I actually started paying closer attention, it's not nearly as impressive. Blu is one of those rappers who can "spit" but he doesn't have a consistent song craft yet. I'm not mad at Mainframe's beats though I know others find them rather simplistic.

the statik selektah album is frontloaded with some strong tracks -- namely those w. Freeway, Bun B, and M.O.P./Jadakiss. b, 21b, 21the lead-off track and Pharoahe Monch/Sean Price are worth hearing on the black milk.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Hmmm. I think this is a little unfair. A listen to Below the Heavens will tell you pretty definitively that the guy knows how to write a song. I think the Johnson & Johnson tape was an intentional move in the other direction, trying to come more off the cuff. The story I heard was that the album was originally supposed to be a promotional mixtape to lead up to the Blu & Exile. They ended up developing it into a more legit full length.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Dude, the album is named "Tronic" and he's standing in front of a wall of synths on the front. You got what you paid for.

Currently into:b,121b,121P Brothers - The Gasb, 21b,121I like the sparse production and great choice of MCs. Roc Marciano is particularly great.b,121b,121Jake One - White Van Musicb, 21b,121Immaculate production. Great list of guests. Freeway appearances are particularly good. In my private mindgarden Jake and Freeway are working on a full LP that will be the best record of 09.b,121b,121People Under The Stairs - Fun DMCb, 21b,121I wasn't a big fan of the early PUTS, but have really enjoyed their last two. I appreciate rap that doesn't have to be more than good music - in a Pete Rock and CL kind of way. If that makes any sense.

termanology's album is the definition of a turd. he's entertaining over primo's beats, other than that dude is not able to hold my attention for 3 minutes.b,121b,121theres just something about him that troubles me, like he's getting over on the hip hop world. b, 21b, 21he just takes a jay-z quote here, a big pun delivery there and figures thats enough to get by. b, 21dude seems like a poser imo.b,121b,121b,121b,121peace,xavier

font class="post"1b,121b,121critique pleez? b, 21b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b,121Nothing has been as good as King. I don't think he'll ever reach that height again. Still, some good tracks. The Numa Numa song shit is embarrasingly awful. Most disappointing production from Just Blaze ever. That shit is straight annoying. I guess he stopped trying to keep it real after the Siagon fiasco and is currently focusing on how to chop up some Venga Boys. As for the rest of the album, beats and rhymes are on target, but I really need to give it another listen. I remember the first few tracks being real strong, and then it kinda fizzled.

I know Thes and Double K have their true school thing going on - and some good lyrics - but I wouldn't give a shit if the production wasn't so sweet.

yeah, the johnson and johnson was pretty cool, especialy the leo's sunship and maskella flips. but i don't feel the need to hear it again anytime soon. b, 21b,121the blu and exile joint was really great and i think years from now people (kufi crowd) will realize what a truly beautiful album it is. b, 21b,121and i disagree w/ o-dub, i think dude def. write's good songs. there are some great hooks on the B&E album, i.e "dancing in the rain" and "the narrow path".b,121b,121b,121b,121peace,xavier
