Mount Eerie - No Flashlight itself is pretty cool:b, 21b, 21img src="http://i36.tinypic.com/1z6w1o3.jpg"1b, 21b, 21this is the lyric sheet -- as you can see it's huge (4-5 feet)l. the record comes housed in it. also, the initial copies came with a cd copy of the record, which i thought was pretty nice move.

A few that haven't been mentioned (none of which really make total sense in JPG form)...b, 21b, 21Moving Wheel covers a la the 1st Soft Machine & Zeppelin 3.b, 21b, 21Door covers like the first Ash Ra Temple & Bill Withers "Still Bill".b, 21b, 21See through covers like the first Faust lp.b, 21b, 21One of the neatest ones I've heard of is that John Bender lp that was sealed in plaster. I've never had it but I guess you had to actually break through the plaster to get the record out of the sleeve.
Spectrum (Pete Kember aka Sonic Boom, one half of Spacemen 3) had some pretty great packaging in the 90s.b, 21The Spectrum album had an Op-Art sleeve, with a rotating disc on the gatefold cover that created some cool moire patterns.b, 21And the Soul Kiss (Glide Divine) album was super-deluxe. Clear vinyl inside a clear PVC sleeve filled with blue gel inside oil, which created a sort of lava lamp effect.b, 21All the 12" singles from the album were pressed on translucent vinyl inside translucent Op-Art sleeves. b, 21b, 21img src="http://www.o-level.net/data/olevel/_/70726f647563742f4f52455a4c503531382e6a70670032353000.png"1 b, 21b, 21
there's also the talking heads fear of music cover with the raised metal grate style print. jerry harrison originally wanted a vinyl plastic cover but it would have cost too much. plus the OG version of Speaking in Tongues.
Quote:/font1h, 21b, 21In Christmas 2005 or '06, I made a mix CD for a crew of females that I know. The mix was all sex- and/or female-related and I had my friend's wife sew together a felt sleeve that looked like ladyparts. Light pink sleeve, darker pink opening stuffed with cotton (to make it puffy) with a little shiny, translucent bead sewn into the top. On the CD itself I drew a cartoony tongue so when you put the CD away...well, you get the point. Perverted, I know, but they absolutely loved it. b, 21b, 21Unfortunately, I only made 10 for each one of the ladies. I wish I would've kept one for myself! I'm pretty sure I posted pics here back in the day but I can't remember where I uploaded them. b, 21b, 21h, 21
