font class="post"1b,121b, 21It's dope, his last record on the Remo label, big white whale off my want list. The one I got is the VZ press, but it is super clean and sounds great, and I'm tired of waiting for an og to pop up at a decent price. Cover image is the same on both.b, 21Lol at "El Condor" its actually "El Conde" The Count, not the Californian vulture lol! But yeah, it is "I like it like that" PR. b,121b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b, 21ha, oops, I have too much Simon and Garfunkel on the brain apparently.b, 21b, 21So this is Rodriguez pre-boogaloo era, right? b,121b, 21h,121font class="post"1b,121b, 21I want to say yes its pre-boogaloo but I'm not sure about the order of his Remo releases, I think the way they go is "At Last..." (has him and his band on a yellow cover), "King of the Boogaloo" (the white cover shot of him with a crown painted on), "Swings" (with the picture of the girl on teh cover) and then "La Reencarnacion." But now I'm wondering if "La Reencarnacion" came after "At Last..." So 4 different covers, but only 2 different albums. Remo started off hot (Pete Rodriguez, Mario Ortiz, Louie Ramirez) and then kinda fell off, wouldn't you say?

As towards the label I don't know if we can say they fell off becuase they didn't release too much salsa material in general, they seem to focus on trios, trovas, etc. I've yet to hear the Louie Ramirez or the first Mario Ortiz records.

font class="post"1b,121b,121That Roberto Carlos has other nice soul-pop tunes as well: especially "Nao Ha Dinheiro Que Page" and "Ciume De Voce". I even like the syrupy soul-pop ballad "Niguem Vai Tirar Voce De Mim". His best LP, IMO: his preceeding LP "Em Ritmo De Aventura" has good groovy pop but less of a soul influence and the one that comes after--s/t '69--has his hardest funk tune "Nao Vou Ficar" but not a lot else.b,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah, it's more accurate to say they changed their focus from nuyorican proto-salsa to something else. I have 2 of the 3 Ortiz LPs and they are good, the Louie Ramirez I haven't heard either as I am not a "baller". The sound engineering on Remo LPs sometimes isn't as clean as on, say, an Alegre LP, but I suppose that's par for the course for early 60s latin (why must I cry?)

Is Rodriguez's "King of Boogaloo" a second pressing of "La Reencarnacion" or the other way around? Because, to me, it makes a lot more sense that "La Reencarncion" came first THEN "King of Boogaloo." This Remo album (1517) would have come out before Rodriguez was even recording boogaloos.

It's true it would make more sense that they did a 2nd issue changing the title to cash in on the Boogaloo craze. Since "La Magnifica" was later re-released with a different title ("Boogaloo ? Ese Pete Esta En Algo") and a later, different catalogue number, I figured the same was true for La Reencarnacion/King of the Boogaloo, but I suppose they could have just just changed the title and kept the same cat. number on this one (I just have King of the Boogaloo). Incidentally, the back cover does list a few of the ritmos as "Guaracha-Boogaloo" or "Guajira-Boogaloo"; I wonder if those were simply Guarachas and Guajiras on the back cover of La Reencarnacion? If you guys want to get completly scientific about FIRST pressings of Remo LPs we can discuss whether the red label with silver "Remo" letters is older than the red label with black lettters...
