font class="post"1b,121b, 21No - there are at least five Encounter titles, including one by Purdie himself called "Purdie Good". I'm out of town right now, so I'm working from memory but there's also Frank Owen: Brown N' Serve and Seldon Powell: Messin' With.b, 21b, 21I feel like there's one more title I'm forgetting though.b, 21b, 21Honestly - I've kept all my Encounter albums just because it was one of the first labels I tried to be a completionist for (not hard when there's only half a dozen titles!) but overwhelmingly, it's really tepid soul-jazz with MAYBE a small handful of good tracks between all the albums.

Not the best stuff in the world IMHO.b, 21Oh and the final Encounter record would be....b,121Damn it would be better with a pic but I couldn't find one online.b,121The Sharpshooters-Choked Up Lp.b,121Great design.

font class="post"1b,121b, 21[i]HALE/i1, NO. Owens is more clean-cut. Carolla, smiling or frowning, looks like a drunk ex-convict.

I have to agree with that. I've met him and while he's actually a nice, intelligent, humble guy (he's a carpenter...like Jesus, dude!), he does have that "America's Most Wanted" look to him. I was drinking with my brother in my record room last Thanksgiving and we made this humorous observation when Owen's record was upfront in my to-be-alphabetized stack.

  • That frank owens is pretty tepid. I traded it for Shawn Phillips-Spaced a month ago.
