Mingering Mike and I head to Liverpool this Wednesday for 4 days. Liverpudlian strutters holler! b,121b,121Mike's going to take part in an event put on by an artist named David Blandy (aka The Barefoot Lone Pilgrim) who's put together an exhibit based on the myth of Mingering Mike. It's part of the Liverpool Biennial Art Festival, The Bluecoat. Unfortunately the albums won't be with us, but Mike will be taking the stage for an interview, which should be pretty fun. Hopefully some of you in the area can make it.b,121b,121Here are the details:b,121b,121October 24th, 2008 @ 5pmb,121at A Foundation, 67 Greenland Street, Liverpool, L1 0BY/b1b,121b,121 img src="http://www.mingeringmike.com/images/misc/blandy1.jpg"1 b,121b,121b,121b1Through video, performance and comic strips as the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim, David Blandy integrates real life and virtual adventures.b,121Donning the orange robes of a Buddhist Shaolin Monk, portable record player in hand, Blandy???s semi-fictional alter ego has been a hermit in an 18th Century park in Surrey, made an American road trip, crossed the English Lake District from one record shop to another, and searched New York for places associated with soul songs. Now the Barefoot Lone Pilgrim is continuing his spiritual journey in search of another fictional character, the recently ???discovered??? American soul singer Mingering Mike, whose home made records, produced years earlier, turned up at a flea market, sparking an interest amongst record collectors in the identity of this mysterious, unheard soul voice lost in cardboard grooves. Blandy???s soulful tribute will look for parallels between his and Mike???s alternate identities, creative processes and artistic outputs (both for instance create comic hero drawings, and share a deep love of soul music). The process is a mythical search for a mythical identity, a crossover where two different fictional universes collide. It also constitutes an investigation of authenticity, a fictional search for an ???authentic??? so-called outsider artist, a fantasy transformed into reality./b1b,121b,121b,121 img src="http://www.mingeringmike.com/images/misc/blandy2.jpg"1 b,121b,121b,121b,121Reservations:b,121Admission is free on the day subject to availability.b,121To ensure your place book in advance for ??30.b,121b,121a href="http://www.biennial.com/content/TalksToursEvents/MADEUPWeekend/Overview.aspx" target="_blank"1More info here/a1

  • Albert Docksb,121The Three Gracesb,121Wigan is a fairly short train ride awayb,121the Anglican Cathedral (supposedly the largest in all of Europe)b,121b,121b,121you can also go to the spot that the Beatles played in, but it's not the original location. The OG spot got turned into a parking lot or a metro station, and they built a new, exact-replica two doors down. The locals try not to tell tourists.

Have fun in England D!b,121Bummed I'm missing ya on my trip east, you gotta bring Mike out west.

  • There used to be a few record shops nearby the Bluecoat, been a a while though. There was Probe records near the Beatle's Cavern - might be gone now. Check out Crosby beach maybe, 100 Gormley cast men on the beach - if you're into art ish. Also just up from there in Formby beach you'll find red squirrels, found pretty well nowhere else since your bully-boy greys took the manor by storm...
