Music suggestions for a Dia De Muertos Party.

I might play a Dia De Muertos Party. Some suggestions? I'm not really knowing?

    Here is a video with some traditional music for the festival.b,121b,121/object1b,121b,121I would probably try mixing my music to make it fit with your area's cultural and musical styles. That's what happens when the festival is transplanted to places like New Zeland, Brazil, and here in America.b,121b,121I personally would mix Latin rhythms, blues, and rock with themes around death and funerals (maybe a slow bagpipe air to mix it up) for a background kind of thing. I would bet that New Orleans jazz funeral procession music would be a good fit.b,121b,121Unless I was doing a frat party, I would prolly avoid a cliche like Oingo Boingo's Dead Man's Party. b,121b,121My two cents.

    P1b,121b,121I never looked good playing bagpipe music. Seriously though, one time as a young lad, I went to a Medieval Festival with my family and witnessed an all Black Bagpipe crew. They killed it. Skirts and all. Fur Realz.

    font class="post"1b,121b,121Your welcome. Yeah, bagpipes can go so horribly wrong. It really depends on the band playing them. b,121b,121The Battlefield Band and Tannahill Weavers rock the pipes. I watched a documentary on bagpipes one time and surprisingly the official Syrian Military Bagpipe Band rocked it by mixing pipes with traditional Arab melodies. b,121b,121On a fusion note, I like the mix of North African rhythms and pipes from Afro Celt Sound System. b,121b,121But I digress... now I patiently await my RenFaire reference from Rootlesscosmo, just no Mead jokes, no serious Scotsman would touch such a girly drink.

Shit like that. But if it's a themed party and the theme is Dia De Los Muertos, I'd keep it more on the spanish speaking tip than anything. stuff like A Dios Le Pido, by Juanes, b,121b,121b,121you might wanna put an altar of some sort up by your setup, out of respect for the holiday too. Ours was pretty much our cake and the poster hanging above it that my stepson did of us as a family of calaveras

    Depending on where the crowd is from, you could go with eitherb,121b,121a) Impalaville, and keep your credb,121b) Cafe Tacuba, and pack the dancefloorb,121c) Hire a campy lounge singer to do Casio covers of Juan Gabriel all night. This is a sure fire winner.

    b,121b,121Impalaville is more kickback in the parque than Dia De Los Muertos. You need some straight-from-the-motherland music for that.b,121b,121Though our annual Dia De Los Muertos..ahem, All Souls Procession *eyeroll* out here is 90% hippywhite, 9% Chicano and about 1% true-blue Mexicanos. b,121b,121Okay, I'll stop now before somebody confuses me with KingMoist.
