McCain is supposed to be the one setting the tone for his campaign. For the past week at least, the tone has gotten increasing feverish and a little wild. McCain is supposed to be the "steady hand at the tiller" and it's pretty clear he's not. His leadership would be a nightmare for the markets and in time of crisis. Shit could be going up and down and all around and McCain would be grasping for something -- anything -- to hold on to, but he doesn't know what to do.

font class="post"1b,121b,121It appears that someone went to a McCain rally and called for the death of Obama and got swooped down on by the FBI.b,121b,121Are you suggesting that something WORSE than that would happen if he was calling for the death of McCain....like they would kill him on the spot??

b,121I was reading one report (from an actual newspaper, forget which one) talking about a black reporter who got kicked out of a McCain rally. He had credentials but supposedly, being the only brother there, just [i]looked
/i1 out of place, so he got bounced.

font class="post"1b,121b,121The [i]Sun-Times'/i1 Mary Mitchell reported that she and at least one other African-American press member were called racial epithets by members of a McCain/Palin rally.b,121b,121Look: I'm not arguing that every supporter of John McCain is a racist or latent murderer. Hell, no. I'm sure that the actual number of folks that shout these things is extremely, extremely low. But either the Palin stump lines are specifically [i]meant/i1 to incite a crowd or they are worthless. There is no call for a potential Vice-President to say that the opposing candidate is a friend of terrorists. That's just terrible. I saw an interview with a former high-ranking Reagan admin that said that William F. Buckley and Reagan had to kick fringe members like that out of their campaign. And she was talking about Sarah Palin directly. Palin had the GOP roots at "doggone it;" there's no need for her to play the hate card.b,121b,121The McCain camp has read these charges from the media and know the bad press they're getting on this account. That's why McCain awkwardly corrected the woman who addressed Obama as "an arab." But at this point, if they continue their talking points, they certainly hold part of the blame for holding a BBQ for pyromaniacs.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Sounds like it might be a good time.b,121b,121b,121A lot of the talking heads are trying to chalk this up (yet again) to Obama playing the race card. I couldn't disagree more. What it comes down, IMO, is McCain. There are so many people inside and out of his campaign pulling him in different directions and he's listless with no traction. The stakes have never been higher for McCain and he is not leading -- the campaign and the rest of the world is just moving at too quick of a pace.b,121b,121
