    Well after little kids songs, the first song I think I remembered was the William Tell Overture because I use to watch the old black and white Lone Ranger show and that was the theme song. Otherwise I grew up listening to 70s AM Pop and Soul stations driving to school with my mom. Things like Love Will Keep Us Together, Tie A Yellow Ribbon, Don't Rock The Boat, etc.

    b,121"My Life" by Billy Joel. Then my folks bought me the vinyl. I remember I had a babysitter that dropped the needle on this record, and she was singing along with the lyrics printed on the back. I called her out for singing along to "Honesty," which I would still do to this day. It was all good though, as she was a pretty cool babysitter overall.b,121b,121Another early song that I remember was "My Sharona." I never liked that song, but someone who lived behind my grandparents' was bumping this track. They must've had the record (or 8-track) because it was on repeat. I remember being in the backyard, annoyed at the whole thing.b,121b,121Again, I later had a babysitter who was playing "My Sharona," and told her that I hated it. She asked me what the song was called, and I didn't know (I was too young to realize "Sharona" was a name, so it all sounded like nonsense to me). She told me that since I didn't know the name, then I couldn't have an opinion on it. Deep down, I knew that this logic was fundamentally flawed, but I was just a kid. I'm sure I just gave her the ice grill and went back to playing with Star Wars figures.

My first exposure to her was on a TV commercial for some mail-order compilation of hippie-era oldies like "Judy In Disguise" and "Sunshine Of Your Love." They played a few seconds of Grace singing "White Rabbit" with Jefferson Airplane - that song sounded, to my six-year-old self, like the National Anthem of Pluto. Based on that sound snippet, I thought she was older and uglier than she actually was...

I think I asked my mom to call the radio station to ask them to play it again. b,121b,121When I was about 10, we used to waste our breath by calling the local rock FM station to request Kiss songs, none of which they ever played. For as popular as they were in the 70s, Kiss didn't get much mainstream radio love in Stevens Point WI. Surprising that the AM stations were rocking the Sweet and Jim Croce, thank God!

    I don't remember the song but the earliest sound memory I have is of the blaring horn section of a mariachi band from when I lived in Mazatlan, Mexico 'till I was 3 years old.b,121b,121#2 is Sunshine of my Life, by Stevie. That album was big when I was a toddler and my mom would sing it to me.
