    It is interesting to think about Breathed, Watterson and Larson all retiring so close to one another. With the exception of "Boondocks" - which, in my opinion, had a far shorter "good" era in it, it's been a rather barren landscape since, no ?

    I have copies of Loose Tails, Billy and the Boingers Bootleg, Takes Too Ticklish To Tell, and The Night of the Mary Kay Commandos. Unfortunately, the Austin American-Statesman never syndicated the Opus comic so I haven't read it at all.

    I grew up loving Bloom County and I guess that's why I was so disappointed with Outland and Opus since they just rehashed the same jokes over and over. He should have stayed retired.

I agree - they're inferior compared to "Bloom County" but a weekly, Sunday "strip" (often times just a single box image) is a very different animal. You can't create a storyline or even really build a cast of characters.

I was not expecting it to be 1987 all over again when Opus returned to B.C., but everytime I see the newer strip, I keep thinking: something's i1gone[/i]. Maybe if Breathed had just plain started all over with a new cast, I wouldn't be passing judgement...
