b,121All the mark murphy ones have good tracks, "Stolen Moments" is probably the strongest (with the herbie "sly" cover version.)

b,121There are actually a LOT of MM Muse releases, and some of them are terrible (and I say that as a fan of vocal jazz).

font class="post"1b,121b,121okay, i'll reconsider that slightly. There are 1 or 2 good tracks on 2 of the other LPs, eg Sausolito, We Could Be Flying, and the jazz dance classic Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens (which is probably on the most "terrible" one to the non-murphy friendly ear).

font class="post"1b,121b,121A large share of the Inner City catalogue consists of licensed Steeplechase and Enja releases, likeb,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121Come to think of it, most of the IC titles I like were originally released on other labels.b,121A couple that come to mind:b,121b,121Charles Sullivan "Genesis" (Strata-East)b,121Togashi Masahiko "Spiritual Nature" (East Wind)b,121Terumasa Hino "Speak To Loneliness" (East Wind)b,121Sun Ra "Cosmos" (Cobra)b,121b,121Couldn't get into that Harold Danko LP. Remember it as being pretty nondescript. Was I missing something?b,121b,121I'll co-sign on the Solar Plexus. That record is everywhere, but it's actually pretty good.b,121U.Dudziak copycat fusion moves.b,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121That's stretching it a lot, but they definitely have more interesting titles than Inner City.b,121This is one that I've been digging lately:b,121img src="http://www.soulstrut.com/images/reviews/crates/motown/Barron,-Kenny---Lucifer.jpg"1b,121The 13-minute track "Hellbound" does it for me. Just Barron overdubbing himself on electric+grand piano and various synths. Nice and mellow. The rest is also quite enjoyable, and it's notable for featuring a young Carlos Alomar on guitar who is more famous for being a regular member of David Bowie's band in the latter half of the 70s/most of the 80s.

Muse gets props from me for keeping the secular side of Savoy going after Arista stopped. Some really good 1950's R&B reissues came out on Savoy/Muse, like the Jive Bombers and Wilbert Harrison. I believe Malaco acquired Savoy's gospel sides.

i know most of you strut dudes dont give the remotest f*ck img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" 21 about the scandinavian music scene, but i just wanted to mention that inner city re-released a early 70s danish jazzrock fusion record by coronarias dans, originally released on steeple chase (1973), this was one of the first scandinavian groups to pick up on the weather report-ish style of playing and one of the very few danish records to get a international/ US release, not sure if it sold or turns up much over seas.. ? b,121b,121img src="http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j79/upskiboo/DSC02398.jpg"1
